Hello to all, The below paragraph is a portion of an e-mail sent to me by Tom Turley of the Alabama Dept. of Archives and History. It is my proof that ADAH has committed themselves to assisting with the Tuscaloosa County Courthouse 7th floor records. Please notice that the date as to when the cleaning and inventorying will happen can only be confirmed after ADAH makes it's initial tour on 22 Oct 04. Tracey, mentioned in the paragraph is the Assistant Director of ADAH. With their commitment of four people to do this cleaning, I call for an equal or greater number of local concerned citizens to commit themselves to joining in this much needed effort at a date yet to be set but should be planned for. We need to have this list of committed people ready for whenever ADAH can come. You will be notified in advance and if you can not work on the day to be announce, that will be accepted. I have called for acceptance of a Preservation Project Committee within the Tuscaloosa Genealogical Society Night Group to take control of this project. I explained to this group last Thursday night at our regularly scheduled meeting, that I have spearheaded this project but that action fell on me quite by accident while investigating the needs and ways of saving our historical records. I said so then and repeat now, that I am inexperienced in the "politics" of getting things of this nature accomplished and know that I have angered some with my calls and messages. I can only hope those that have been harmed by me can see that I am stumbling through this and accept my sincere apologies. Please don't take this out on the records. For the sake of the records, I will continue to keep the ball rolling as best that I can and ask for any help, be it advise, direction or any assistance you have to offer. This project is larger than any one person. This project will be very long term and completed in many steps. There will be periods of physical work and there will be periods of planning. I conclude by saying that we can only lose our records once and even the faintest writing is better than the brightest memory, won't you please be a part of this. Help in what ever way you have time and interest. Feel free to contact me at anytime. The best method will be e-mail. Thank You, Mike Sullivan #44 Shadowlawn Dr. Homewood, AL 35209 [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> Tracey talked this morning with Fran Brazeal, and they arranged for Tracey and me to visit the courthouse's 7th floor storage area on the afternoon of Friday, October 22. Because there is an election on October 26, Ms. Brazeal said that her staff would be busy and could not spend much time with us. Therefore, we will schedule a full day, after the election, to inventory the circuit court records on the 7th floor and clean up the moldy books. Frank Brown, our other local records archivist, and Linda Overman, our conservation officer, will come with us on that trip.
