I am looking for the family of Larkin Kay in Tuscaloosa, Alabama in the 1860's. I know that he and his family were in Talladega Co., Alabama in the 1860 census but my GG Grandmother, Emma Malissa Kay was born in August of 1862 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama according to my great grandmother's Bible record. Emma had a brother, Elijah Kay who was born in 1861 and a sister, Lucy Kay who was born in 1865. I know they were born in Alabama but don't know if they were born in the same place as Emma or not. By 1870, I think that Larkin Kay was dead because I found his wife, Elizabeth Kay, age 45 as the head of the house in the 1870 census for Perry Co., Alabama. At some time during the 1870's Elizabeth also died leaving their children as orphans. The family of Joseph Early Little took the children in and raised them from that point on. The Little family lived next door to Elizabeth Kay in the 1870 census. In the census, Elizabeth had a daughter with her named Martha Kay who was 14 years old and a daughter, Lucy Kay who was 5 years old. I don't know where the other children were at that time. The Kay children were: Mary E. Kay born about 1852 Martha M. Kay born about 1853 or later. W.L. Kay son born about 1854 R.E. Kay son born about 1852 and may have been a twin to Mary Kay. Elijah Kay born 1861 in Ala. Emma Malissa Kay born Aug. 1862 in Ala. Lucy A. Kay born Sept. 1865 in Ala. The father was Larkin Kay and the mother was Elizabeth Landers Kay. Larkin was born in South Carolina about 1808-1810 and Elizabeth Landers Kay was born about 1825-1829 in South Carolina, Georgia or Alabama. I have heard all three places so don't know which one it is. I wonder if Larkin Kay may have died in Tuscaloosa Co. at some point after Lucy was born in Sept. 1865. He was evidently alive in Jan. of 1865. Thank you for your help. Jane Little McEndree janemc@airmail.net
