Still searching for any and all information of the family of Dr. William Archibald Leland in Tuscaloosa. Primarily looking for the following people: Percy Warren Leland, born 29 November 1915 in Tuscaloosa, died 26 April 1972 in SC, to a Percy W. Leland and wife Ollie H??? I am hoping these two connect to either Morgan C. Leland or Harry L. Leland. Morgan C. Leland was born abt 1856 and married a Margaretha Kemmler. Harry Lee Leland is found living with his brother William A. Leland, Jr. in 1880. He supposedly married someone named Orpha. Looking for information on the Simonton family. Richard Castlereigh McLester, my 2nd Great-grandfather, married Mary Theresa Simonton in 1841, his brother, James Augustus McLester married Jane Simonton as his 2nd wife in 1847. I believe these two girls are sisters and the daughter of Henry Smith Simonton and his wife Mary Beyers Simonton. They are found in Tuscaloosa in 1840 with 2 girls, one 10-15 and the other 15-20. Any help with this family would also be appreciated. Thanks............ Rick Leland Family Researcher "The Leland Family of Virginia; et al" http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~lelandva
Hi, Rick & fellow listers. These "SIMONTON"s were probably descended from the Scottish "SYMINGTON" family which sent branches into Alabama. Henry Smith Simonton, I believe, was a legislator in old Tuskaloosa before moving on to Louisiana & Texas. During the 1840's there was also another "Simonton" family which later moved to Texas by way of Mississippi and who were connected to the GOULD family of the Carolinas. Here are some links which you may have already found: http://freeweb.pdq.net/pension/simontons.htm http://www.tsha.utexas.edu/handbook/online/articles/view/GG/fgo22.html Morris http://personal.bellsouth.net/~simonsl/msimon.html ----- Original Message ----- From: Rick Leland <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, March 21, 2002 10:29 AM Subject: [ALTUSCAL] LELAND-SIMONTON .... > Looking for information on the Simonton family.
