Thanks to all who rally to save our heritage. I am an out of town member in Florida, but my Hamner relatives in Tuscaloosa are still an interesting mystery. I hope all who are local will help preserve these priceless records. I asked a friend who is an archivist what is the easiest way to rid the documents of mold. Deep freeze them to kill mold and dehydrate documents. Then move to dehumidified area for organization and scanning into a computer to save for future. Save scanned documents with file names by year-month-day-type-name-place( ie 1865-12-25-Birth record-Cora Hamner-Tuscaloosa, Alabama) Great project with volunteers, and could sell the CD as fund raiser to permanently preserve the original documents safely.
