What was the relationship between Dr Rufus Haywood and his "relatives" A. T. Prince and Ann Stewart (Clement) Prince? Realizing that you can't account for the accuracy, I will caution all that the info you pulled out on the children of Charles Stewart and Elizabeth Clements is flawed. Solomon Stewart is my GGG Grandfather. Here's some examples of what's wrong. 1. most of the birth years for the children are wrong. They were originally guesses by someone, perhaps Francis Baker. Don't know who posted that. a. According to Solomon's son Rufus's Bible, Solomon was born July 7, 1786 not 1783. The 1850 census (S. B. Stewart) confirms. b. Another example is Larkin Stewart who was born Feb. 25, 1784 according to an Alabama descendent via his daughter. She has a copy of the Larkin Stewart Bible. c. I think Reuben Stewart's birth year is wrong as well. Will have to check. A descendant in northern California holds it as a guess of 1782?/1785?, but I think not, since slots 1781, 1784 and 1786 are pretty solid for William, Larkin, and Solomon d. William Stewart was born March 24, 1781, according to Smith family Bible in Fayette Co, AL. 2. According to Rufus Stewart's Bible, Solomon married Sarah Hogins, not Hogan. However, since William Stewart married a Hogan, and since I believe Rufus' wife wrote what she heard by her ear, I believe Hogan may be righty. However, Based on Solmon's sister Johanna marrying a Walters Harkins, I now, grasping at straws, believe it could have just as well been Sarah Harkins. Harkins/Hogins or Hogan(s)/Hogins are potentially very close. 3. One of the pulls you found only lists three of Solomon's children. All ten are listed in his 1851 Will in MS wills 1-1. 4. Charles may have fought in the he battle for Scotland's Independence at Culloden against the British. That could be the reason he had to leave Scotland? There were other reasons such as the clan system was decaying, and their way of life was changing rapidly. One of the traditions/oral stories about Charles Stewart who married Johanna Kirk was that he came over from Scotland and worked for or otherwise indentured himself to a man names Spotsford, I believe. He later moved to NC and there stated the trail of Charles and Johanna Stewart in Wake co NC. No one has ever been able to prove who or where they came from in Scotland. Ch; 1.
