Hi Mary, The assumption is that they were born in NC, probably Wake / Cumberland County. - According to notes I have, The 1850 Alabama census, Marengo County, #1248, shows Larkin STEWART, age 66, Farmer, (born) NC. That would have him born in 1784 in North Carolina. - in Stokes Cemetery, Greensboro, Alabama is his wife's headstone: Martha Stewart, Wife of Larkin Stewart, Born May 17, 1789, Died Aug. 24, 1841. So, his wife was about 5 years older than he. Other notes I have show Martha as being born in South Carolina. - I think Larkin (W.) STEWART died somewhere between Oct 14, 1865 (when he deeds the land upon which he resides to George Lyon, according to my notes), and Dec 1866, as the Marengo Co, Al Records Book 6, deals in Dec 1866 with the Estate of Larkin Stewart. - a Mrs J. H. Phillips, long deceased, at one time residing at 1605 2nd Ave, Tuscaloosa, Alabama, carried Reuben STEWART as born 1779, Wake Co., NC, son of Charles and Elizabeth (Clements) Stewart. That conflicts with other researchers who carry his brother Charles (mar Sarah Mathia) as being born in 1779, but based on my research (personal assessment), I believe that Reuben was one of the older brothers and Charles was one of the younger brothers and that 1779 is likely. I have no proof of that though. cheers, Dick Stewart ========================= From: "DS" <[email protected]> > b.
