    3. does anyone have any information on this couple? a careful search of the 1840 census in Alabama discloses them as the only likely parents for my great, great grandfather. no trace of them after that has been found, and I can only discover Lewis as a husband to Carolina in the marriage records and in 3 data files at WorldConnect, but without any children. the 1840 census for Tuscaloosa, Alabama lists the family as Collins, Lewis D. 220001000000021000100000 2 males 0-5, 2 males 5-10, 1 male 30-40 2 females 0-5, 1 female 5-10, 1 female 30-40 my information is that my gr., gr grandfather, Francis Collins, was born in 1832 (male aged 5-10) (near Birmingham) and had a twin brother born 2 days after him (2 males aged 5-10) of the 15 Collins families in the 1840 census in counties surrounding Birmingham, Lewis' family is the only one with two males aged 5-10 years of age. in 1850, there is no Lewis or Carolina Collins. my information is that Francis' parents died when the boys were "quite young", and if Lewis and Carolina died before 1850, that also would fit the family story. I truly appreciate any help finding out whether or not Lewis and Caroline are my ancestors. blessings, Cornelia Oregon -- Norton Antivirus protected
