Looking for info on Richard Hampton and Nancy Poe and their children and their parents. They were listed on the 1850 Tuscaloosa Co. AL census on page 209, Family #219, District #2, Enumerated on Nov. 13, 1850 by E. A. Powell: R. H. Poe - Male, age 38 (b. 1812), b. NC, a merchant. Nancy - Female, age 38 (b.1812), b. TN William T. - M, age 17 (b. 1833), AL, Clerk Monica (?) C. - F, age 15 (b. 1835), AL Elizabeth - F, age 12 (b. 1838), AL James A. - M, age 10 (b. 1840), AL Richard R. - M, age 7 (b. 1843), AL Mary E. - F, age 5 (b.1845), AL Roda A. - F, age 5 months (b. 1850), AL Marion F. Bell - M, age 19, (b. 1831), AL, Clerk (Also listed with this family.) I do not know who Richard Hampton Poe's parents were. According to ages, he may have been a s/o Simon Poe, Jr. (b. abt 1782) and Margaret McMillian (b. abt. 1790). However, I am just guessing about that as I do not have a list of Simon, Jr. and Margaret (McMillian) Poe's children. I would like to have a list of that family. I am really interested in the surname of Nancy, wife of Richard Hampton Poe. The primary family I am researching is the Yerby/Yearby family. Everette and Sarah (McMillian) Yerby, who came to Tuscaloosa Co. AL about 1817, had a daughter, Nancy, whom I have very little info about. She was probably their youngest child. The Bethel Baptist Church, Northport, AL records show that a Nancy Yerby was dismissed from the church in June 1835. The Yerby's came from Rutherford Co. TN to AL. The 1850 census record for Richard Hampton Poe states that his wife, Nancy, was born in 1812 in TN. The Everette Yerby came from Mecklenburg Co. NC to Rutherford Co. TN about 1808/09. So, their daughter, Nancy, may have been born in Rutherford Co. TN. I do not know her birth date. The Yerby, McMillian and Poe families were close and did some intermarrying. Just trying to determine IF Nancy Yerby, d/o Everett and Sarah Yerby, was the wife of Richard Hampton Poe. Would appreciated any info on the Richard Hampton Poe family whether his wife was Nancy Yerby or not. Hildred Carlson
