I am researching my husband's HOLLIS line. His Grandfather, J.P. Hollis died in 1935 in Jefferson Co., AL. His mother was Betty Joyce Hollis. Her father was Joseph Post Hollis. I'm told he was married once before and his first wife died. But before she died they had a child named Robert Earl Hollis in 1920. I found an ancestral file for a marriage between a Cormon Elsie Bush and Joseph Post Hollis on 23 Nov. 1919. It did not list a county for the marriage. It listed that Cormon was born 19 Jan. 1902 in McCalla, Tuscaloosa Co., Alabama. And that she was a daughter to Harlan Benjamin Alexander Bush and Amanda Jane Abernathy. In the Alabama Death Index, 1908-59 I found a Mrs. Cormon Hollis , 13 Oct. 1922, Jefferson, Vol. #40, Role #2, Page #19683 and an infant Hollis, 13 Oct. 1922, Jefferson Co., AL, Vol. #40, Role #2, Page 19680, infant of J.P. Hollis. I believe Cormon Elsie Bush was my husband's grandfather's first wife and that they had a son named Robert Earl and while having a second child, her and the baby died.
