    1. [ALTUSCAL] Have you heard of Jeremiah K. DUKE?

    3. Jeremiah K. DUKE was married in Perry Co., Al., in Jan.1836. His bride was Caroline WOOLLEY. They had two children who were Rachel Ann Shunsey DUKE, first-born (I have not dob for her!), and Lovick Sherrod DUKE, b. 7-10-1840. Caroline was a widow, probably by the end of 1842, because she was married again, in May, 1843, to Alexander WORRELL. This marriage also occurred in Perry Co. It has been my personal 'brick wall', trying to discover the name of the parents of Jeremiah K. DUKE!! No details of his earlier life of any kind have been found, to this date. There were other DUKE family members in the Perry Co. area, about most of whom I have some knowledge. For instance, Robert DUKE (probably a widower), son of Thomas DUKE of Fairfield Dist., SC, had migrated to Perry Co. with his son's family, who were James and his wife, Elizabeth Judith WILSON DUKE. James and Lizzie Judith (as she was called) had eleven or more children, some of whom settled in the Perry Co. area, and others who moved west into Mississippi, and beyond. Some possible connections have been found, which might link Jeremiah K. to these folks, but all the details are strictly circumstantial, in nature. These questions arise on the points mentioned below, regarding him. 1. What is the significance of the initial 'K.' in his name? Does it indicate the possible initial of his mother's maiden surname?? If you can shed light, please do!! 2. Could Robert DUKE, son of Thomas of Fairfield, and father of James, have had another son, named Jeremiah?? James is the only off-spring of Robert who is well-documented, so far as any known records have revealed. 3. If Robert is not the father of Jeremiah K., then who could be his father?? 4. Where could he have come from?? 5. Who was his mother, and ----- those are just a few!! You can see that there are some curious blank spots in the records, concerning Jeremiah K!! Can you help??
