    3. I am trying to verify or disprove a family story, and could use a little help. The story is that my gggrandmother and her family lived across a river from the nearest town. She was not allowed to go into town for parties or dances, so she used to wait until the coast was clear, then swim the river with her clothes tied on top of her head. She would return home the same way. There was a ferry crossing the river, but since her brothers ran the ferry, she didn't dare try to take that. I am interested in finding more about this ferry and about her family. Here is what information I have been able to find about my gggrandmother and her family: Wiley Watson b. July 13, 1800 SC d. March 3, 1852, m. Mildred ? (Milly)b. November 17, 1802, d. January 9, 1852. They had 8 children: Hezekiah Watson b. Jan. 31, 1826 Amaziah Watson b. Apr. 18, 1828 Lilly Asbury Watson (a man) b. May 20, 1831 Lewis B. Watson b. Mar. 17, 1833 Martha Jane Watson (my gggrandmother) b. Feb. 15, 1836 Melissa C. Watson b. Sept. 24, 1837 Albert Newton Watson b. Nov. 18, 1840 William Wiley Watson b. Jul. 18, 1842 The above information conflicts a bit with the following census, and I am not sure which is correct: 1850 Fed. Census Tuscaloosa County, AL, Household # 797 Wiley Watson 40 M Farmer Birthplace: SC b. 1810 Milly 40 F Birthplace: SC b. 1810 Amaziah 22 M Farmer Birthplace: SC b. 1828 Lilly 19 M Farmer Birthplace: SC b. 1831 Lewis 17 M Farmer Birthplace: SC b. 1833 Martha J. 16 F Birthplace: AL b. 1834 Mary Ann 15 F Birthplace: AL b. 1835 Albert 10 M Birthplace: AL b. 1840 William 8 M Birthplace: AL b. Does anyone have any information about this family or the ferry they might have run? Does anyone know about any ferries that were run on any rivers in Tuscaloosa County? Thanks so much in advance. This is a great list.... Janet Graham Theberge
