My gg-grandfather, Henley Wingfield Hamner, attended a boarding school, Columbian Institute, in Taylorville, before the War Between the States. It was founded and run by Edward Tarrant (who later formed and commanded an artillery unit). Is anyone familiar with this school? Surely it's gone by now, but I thought someone may have some information on it. Also, I understand there is a Hamner Cemetery in Taylorville. Any information, such as directions, would be greatly appreciated. I am planning a pilgrimage back to the ancestral homelands later this month, and this will be one of my main stops.
