This story comes from William R. Smith's Reminiscences of a Long Life. An interesting note not included in this story is that Mr. Smith knew the exact spot (within a few feet) of where the hanging took place but decided not to include it in his book. He stated that only a few people, if any, were still alive who remembered where it was; he was an eye-witness to this event that happened in 1822. His book was published in 1889. Thanks, Peter J.
