Am looking for Evergreen Cemetery (has app. 3000 graves) and Hopewell Cemetery (has app. 450 graves) in Tuscaloosa Co. Can anyone please supply me directions on how to get from West Blocton or Centreville to these places? Also if I want to find plantation owners and location of their lands in Tuscaloosa Co. in the 1840-1850's where would a starting place be. Thanks. Paula [email protected]
December 26, 1858 was the birthdate of Gabrilla Teresa Davis, daughter of William Davis and Mary Crossland. She married James Thomas Caples 25 February 1883 and they made their home in Tuscaloosa County. They were parents to 8 children: Jefferson Davis, Martha, Thomas Lee, Mary Ann, Vera, Max Morgan, and twins Pearl Elizabeth and Earl Alexander. I have just a wee bit of information on Gabrilla's parents and siblings and would like to add more -- as well as information on her descendants. See the information that I do have at http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=elsi&id=I570 Regards, Elsi
On Christmas Eve, 1903, Lewis Marion Watson and Alice Springer married in Elrod. Born on 29 December 1871, Lewis was the third of four children born to William Wiley Watson and Marilla R. Rose. Nothing more is known of Alice, nor do I have any information on children who may have been born to Lewis & Alice Watson. Regards, Elsi
Hello all, I thought I'd look for information on my Norris family from Tuscaloosa County, AL, using Martha A. Norris as today's focal point. After all, today is her birthday. On 22 December 1857, Martha A. Norris was born to George Washington Norris and Mary Ann Hewett in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama. She joined an already large family with older brother Collin Finnell, and sisters Sarah, Louise, Harriet, and Amanda. Two more children followed her in the next five years: a second brother John Hewitt, and another sister, Mary. I have very little information on this family. George W. Norris was the youngest brother of my ancestor, Thomas Jackson Norris. Many of these Norris folks were members of Nazareth Primitive Baptist Church in Samantha -- and were buried in the graveyard there. Photos of the church and some of the headstones can be found at http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~lcompton/norris/ If you know of the further lineage of Martha A. Norris or her siblings, I'd love to add your information to my files. View all of Martha's ancestry in my GEDCOM published at http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/~elsi/ Regards Elsi
Hello ~ My Hallman line is full of Oswalt, Snider and Weaver lines. My Jacob David Hallman married Mariah Snider - Jacob Hallman married Elizabeth Weaver. James McLeod Hallman married a Nancy Isabelle Avery and they had a daughter - Fanie T. Branan Hallman who married my Thomas R. Price. They were from Tuscaloosa, Alabama. I live in Atlanta now. The Hallmans acquired 1300 acres of land at Yellow Creek after the War in Tuscaloosa County near Windham Springs. There is actually still a old homeplace of the Hallman's still standing and well taken care of. Spencer Hill Cemetary is also there and you can find many graves of such families - near Piney Woods. Some relatives are buried at Big Hurricane Cemetary in Brookwood, Alabama. I also have a Web Site Price Families of Tuscaloosa, Alabama with all of the above lines mentioned and I am still researching as well. the link address is: http://pages.zdnet.com/ramel2001/pricefamiliesoftuscaloosaalabama Please sign my guest book as others can find you as well who are researching these lines. Hello WILLINGHAM and DAVIS researchers: I need help getting a copy of a 1855 Tuscaloosa Co. Court document (Orp Ct Bk 6 p 260; 26 Nov 1855) or at least a look up to see what it says where a couple people (Elijah and William WILLINGHAM) lived. Elizabeth (WILLINGHAM) DAVIS d.bef. Jun 1849 and since her husband had already died and she had no children her estate went to her brothers and sisters or their heirs. Her husband was Nathaniel DAVIS who d. Jan 1848. They had married 14 Aug 1822 in Columbia Co., GA. One of her brothers was Thomas WILLINGHAM who had died, so his heirs were listed, as: Martha WILLINGHAM (b.ca.1811 GA, d.1877 Tuscaloosa Co. m. Willis DAVIS) Elihu WILLINGHAM (b. 12 Mar 1814 GA, d.19 Jan 1877, m. bef.1838 Elizabeth W. CHERRY) Elijah WILLINGHAM William WILLINGHAM Each got $49.95. For each person to get their distribution from the estate their address had to be known. What I want to know is where Elijah WILLINGHAM and William WILLINGHAM were living in 1855? What does the document say? I believe the document is located at: Orp Ct Bk 6 p 260; 26 Nov 1855) Tuscaloosa Co., Ala I don't know why this is filed in an Orphan's Court Book rather than a Tuscaloosa Probate Book. Maybe I have the citation wrong. If you have done other research on WILLINGHAM I would appreciate any other information you have on Elijah WILLINGHAM and William WILLINGHAM. Thank you. James R. Hi Robin, I too am researching LINDSEYs in Tuscaloosa County. My kin are Mary Catherine LINDSEY (1877-1950), her parents were James Franklin LINDSEY (1853-1937) and Roena PATE (cir 1860-?). I believe James Franklin's parents were John M (perhaps Monroe) LINDSEY (cir 1830-?) and wife Catherine (married circa 1853). See any connections?
