Need look-ups on the 1890, 1900,1910 Pickens Co. AL Census Records for James M. (Martin) Yerby born in 1866 in Pickens Co. The last census record I have for him was the 1880 Pickens Co.when he was age 14 years and listed in the household of his parents John J. and Elizabeth Yerby. Believe his wife was Martha "Mattie" Whimble and he had a son, Zollie Martin Yerby born 1889. Looking for info giving the names, dates and ages of the family members. Some of John J. and James Martin Yerby's descendants may have lived and may still be living in the Coker, Tuscaloosa Co. AL area. Any help appreciated. Hildred Carlson

I have been looking for the names of my GGG Grandparents since the 1970's and today I found them. They were LARKIN KAY and ELIZABETH LANDERS KAY. I would love to find out more about them. For the longest time, I only knew the name of my GG Grandmother, EMMA MALISSA KAY LITTLE, their daughter. My great grandmother, her daughter, said that she was born in Tusculoosa, Alabama in 1862 or 1863. I know that she had two older sisters who married her brother-in-law, John Wesley Little. One of the sisters was a MARY KAY. I don't know what the other one's name was but I suspect that it may have been a MARTHA KAY. I know that Emma had a brother named ELIJAH KAY who was born in about 1861 in Alabama and a little sister named LUCY KAY who was born about 1865 in Alabama. Emma's parents evidently died when she was at least 8 years old because she was taken in along with at least Lucy if not the other children by the JOSEPH EARLY LITTLE family. They said that Emma was so young and yet trying to take care of her little sister so they took them in. Lucy Kay, her sister, was retarded due to running a high fever and she lived with Emma until Emma died and then with my great grandmother, Mary Susanna Salina [Mamie] Little Johnson until Lucy died. Lucy and Mamie are buried beside each other in Ft.Worth, Texas. I found my Joseph Early Little family in the 1870 census in Perry County, Alabama. Joseph Early Little and his wife Salina Dodson Little were my GGG Grandparents on the Little side. Next door to them in Perry County, Alabama in 1870 was an ELIZABETH KAY, age 45 and born in South Carolina. With her were two girls, MARTHA KAY, age 14 and LUCY KAY, age 5. Both girls were born in Alabama. I am wondering if the father, LARKIN KAY, may have died in the Civil War. I'd like to find out more about this family of Larkin Kay and Elizabeth Landers Kay. If anyone knows anything about them, I sure would appreciate the help. Is there anyway I can find a war record for LARKIN KAY in the Civil War from Alabama? Thank you, Jane Little McEndree janemc@airmail.net
Hello to all, Last spring in 2002, a newspaper article from Tuscaloosa came out about Natural Bridge in Winston County. I had linked to it from my website, but the article is now gone, and I would like to include it for the history of Natural Bridge on my website. Can anyone help? Thanks, Peter J. Hi Teresa, According to my aunt, the line, at least up through my Solomon, presumably higher, were "stong Presbyterians". That would go back to 1700s. After Solomon died, and after the Civil War, I find one of Solomon's daughters, at an elderly age, is a "Charter Member" of Scooba Baptist Church in Scooba, Kemper County, Mississippi. Beyond that, I have no other clues, except........ - Walter Harkins married, possibly in SC or LCT TN, Johanna Stewart, supposed sister of Solmon and his other brothers. No info on him and how he and Johanna lived out their lives after leaving LCT TN and moving to Fayette Co, AL. - There appears to be definite ties between (in LCT TN and probably before) Stewarts, McConnells, CLements, Harkins, possibly Wrights, Burfords, perhaps one can discern from an analysed gaggle of folks whether or not they were all of the same persuasion and moved to LCT en masse. - Other interesting things (with respect to potential gaggles) are: a. the AL 1816 Monroe County census with a gaggle of Stewarts (including Solomon) [BTY, for the first time in 15yrs, I saw on the web some of the census details of this territorial census, with Solomon showing exactly what he would have had at that time Himself, Wife, son under 21, two daughters under 21, which fits with Orrin, Mary, and Czarina. Also showed 4 colored, but I wasn't sure if they were of color free or slaves.] Now, was he in LCT on his land or not, or did the Monroe County, AL 1816 accidently extend into LCT TN south of Fayetteville? hmmmmmm..... b. the 1817Alabama Terrority petion signed by Judge Harry Toulmin (with dozens of sigs incl Solomon) c. the 1818 Seminole War military docs (with Solmon seen as related to Fort/Camp Montgomery) Here they are supposed to be in LCT all this time, yet seemingly accounted for elsewhere. Squatters? Thoughts? cheers, Dick Stewart Colorado ----- Original Message ----- From: DORISS To: RMS Sent: Saturday, March 01, 2003 5:42 PM Subject: Re: The Petersburg Volunteers, 1812-1813 - Roster Dick, I think I have seen this before, must be Dinwiddie Co VA. Your Rueben went to Pendelton Co SC and then to AL, may have stopped off in GA. Do you know what religion Charles and Johanna were? What churches did this line go to? I am trying to figure out if they were Presbyterian, I think more than half of Cumberland Co was. This was real Tory country. Almost all it's inhabitants were Scottish and very loyal to the Crown or England. Mine were Methodist Episc. James line in VA were Baptist. On the 1784 Johnston Co Nc tax list I find Charles Jr and SR. I know of NO STEWARTS in Johnston CO. Hi Teresa Just a few bullets for the moment. There is much more to be said, and a couple of questions, please. - Of The Ch/J Stewart, line I am of the line of their son Charles, who is supposed to have been the father of Larkin, Benjamin, Johanna, William, Reuben, etc, including my Solomon Stewart. I have yet to find any firm evidence of this, other than other family group sheets. - Ch/J George Stewart line is the mormon line, I think? There is a George Stewart Society out in the Utah area. As the editor of the Stewart Family Genealogical Journal for a few years, I got invited to a Sunday dinner at one of the family member's house, and was presented with the entire research boxes of Francis Mae Baker, who did a lot of work for them. I was awi inspired with the whole thing, but would up focusing on the fine dinner and the friendly atmosphere of the various members of the Society who attended as well. I may have some of the names of these folks in the pile somewhere. This goes back to probably 1997. - On the Larkin Stewart side, there is a [Linwood] Smith line in Fayette Co, AL, but I believe that is via the mother. Or, it's through Larkin's wife's side (Martha Parker). - The line of Reuben Clements / Benjamin Clements is captured in Tuscalloosa County Genealogical Group (morning group). Maggie {Sudduth?} is the owner of that line I think. {{{Billie, are you still there? Is Maggie still doing genealogy?}} - There is a NC Revolutionary War listing (regiment or company or something like that?) in one of the NC military like books, and it rang bells all over the place for my Aunt and I a few years ago. I have it in yet another pile. Seem like it had Charles Stewart, and a Clements, and an Utley, and one other perhaps. Just seemed too well gaggled together to be a coincidence, we thought. - QUESTION: Can you clarify your statements about Gibson County, TN? I'm about ready? Did you say $125? Dick Stewart ----- Original Message ----- From: "DORISS" <doriss@telesal.net> To: <STEWART-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, March 01, 2003 10:03 AM Subject: [STEWART] Cumberland, Wake CO, Alabama, Gibson Co TN Stewarts > Hi lists, > I am searching for people researching the lines of Charles and Johanna Kirk Stewart of Cumberland/Wake Co NC. This line intermarried with the Clements, Utleys of NC and migrated to Gibson Co TN, Alabama, Utah. I believe they became Mormans. I have reason to believe, that if we found a Male descendant to participate in our Stewart DNA project, that we would have a possible match with 2 of our participants which already have their results posted. I have been researching the Clements line out of different VA counties for some time. One of those lines was allied with Ford, Shelton, Pigg, Ellison, Hurt and were next door neighbors to the William Stewart and wife Mary line of Amelia Co VA. Reuben Clements married Elizabeth Stewart the daughter of Charles and Johanna Kirk Stewart in Wake Co NC (?), they moved to Pendelton district SC after 1786. Their first born son was named Benjamin Clements. I think there is a strong possibility that Reuben Clements was the son of Benjami! > n Clements who lived until late 1750's in Amelia Co VA, by 1760 he is in Halifax Co VA. They may have moved right over the line to Johnston/Granville Co NC, which are the parent counties of Cumberland and Wake Co NC. Charles Stewarts land in Cumberland Co was right next to Johnston Co NC border line. I would like to hear from members of this line please. > Best regards, > Teresa Stuart de Rios > doriss@telesal.net > > > ==== STEWART Mailing List ==== > MSN is still experiencing intermittant bounce situation. Looking for any information (other than my own) that may provide clues as to where and when these two got married. Appears that they may have gotten married in the mid 1830's, living just south of the city, possibly on the Greenville? road. Cheers from the Rockies, Dick Stewart
Roscoe Duncan was a Trustee in the Calvery Baptist Church in Tuscaloosa, AL on Dec. 14,1930. I have recently acquired a copy of the church bulletin for that date. Roscoe was listed as a Church Trustee and two children, Hugh and Virginia Duncan were listed as members of the Junior Choir. I assume they were children, grandchildren, or neice and nephew in Roscoe's family. I would be grateful for communication with someone in this family or genealogical info regarding this family. Trying to find relatives of my great-grandfather, James H. Duncan born 1827 in Tuscaloosa Co. AL. He married on July 28, 1859 to Lucretia Cooper, d/o Robert Cooper. I have recently found that a J.T. YERBY was the compiler of a Genealogical Chart for the JESSE WOODRUFF HINTON family of Tuscaloosa, AL. This chart was probably compiled in the 1950's. It is unknown whether or not this J.T. Yerby was a relative of the Hinton's. There must have been a kinship or a close freindship for him to have furnished genealogical info about the Jesse Woodruff Hinton family. I am trying to find more info about J. T. Yerby to determine if I have him in my Yerby family records and where he places on the YERBY FAMILY TREE. I am a Yerby family researcher. I have found two John Thomas Yerby's (Jr. and Sr.) who lived in Tuscaloosa, however, they do not fit the time period for when the chart was compiled. I do have a copy of a Marriage License for JAMES THOMAS YERBY and MAY FLORENCE CROSBY in Greene Co., AL dated April 25, 1920. I have no other info on this James Thomas Yerby. I am wondering if he was the compiler of the chart. I would be very grateful for info about the identity of the J.T. Yerby who compiled the chart or any info about James Thomas Yerby who married May Florence Crosby. Sincerely, Hildred Carlson

Hi Margaret, I am going to attempt to send you a private mail with attachment with the little bit of information I have on Hester Melissa Patterson, but the info I have shows her father as Benjamin Franklin with the same dates you have.
