If you receive this more than once, I am cross-posting it so those who have expressed interest in this information on other county lists may also receive it. Pardon the multiple e-mails if you are on more than one of the lists it is being posted on. SCHEDULE OF COLONIAL, CONTINENTAL, TERRITORIAL, AND STATE CENSUS RECORDS. The years that AL took a State/Territorial census: 1801- 1808 - 1809 - 1810 - 1816 - 1818 - 1820 - 1821 - 1823 - 1832 - 1838 - 1840 - 1850 - 1855 - 1866 - 1875 According to the information in the publication that I have, it states the following: Alabama was settled prior to and/or became a territory, 3 March 1817. It was admitted as a state, 14 Dec 1819. AL was actually a Territory for two years. Prior to this time it was part of the Georgia Territory/State (most of the upper half of the state) and was also part of the Mississippi Territory. Georgia became a state, 2 Jan 1788, Missisippi became a state, 10 Dec 1817. This publication states that there was a census taken for Alabama for the years of 1790 and also 1800 by the "parent" territory. It further states with an asterisk, that part of the census and/or all of the census for the years of 1810 and 1820 are missing, which refers to the Federal Census. Also of note is the fact that the State/Territorial Census was not taken in all areas/counties of the state. To be noted also are the continual changing county lines, where applicable. It list the years of the Federal Mortality Census as: 1850 - 1860 - 1870 - 1880 It is to be noted that it was not taken in all areas/counties, but does not state which ones were not included. The same holds true for the State Census as well as the Territorial Census. Any census available for the state is located at the Alabama Archives in Montgomery, if available. Same with the census that was taken for the Agricultural/Manufacturing census as far as I know. They are also located in research departments of the larger libraries in some counties. I hope this helps some of you who have had inquiries lately in regard to the State Census, and also the Mortality Schedules. Judi Parker

I am trying to locate my ggg-grandparents burial place. The last place I can find them on any census records is living around the town of Elrod in the 1870 Tuscaloosa county census. Their death date would probably be between 1870 and 1880 as I can't find them on the census anymore after 1870. Does anyone know of any cemeteries near Elrod that might have an archive as to who is buried in them? Their names are: Hiram Roberts (born 1807) Mary (Polly) Ayers Roberts (born 1805) They had a grandson living with them in the 1870 census. His name was: Hiram Campbell (spelled Camel on the census) born 1860 I found Hiram Campbell living with a cousin in the 1880 Blount county census. Take care, James Roberts My ancestory webpage: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~jrob/roberts.htm

Hi, I just joined this group today hoping to help find more about my ancestors. My question is about my ggg-grandfather Hiram Roberts born 1807 in Greenville, S.C. His spouse was Mary (Polly) Ayers born 1805 in Greenville, S.C. They migrated to Paulding county, Georgia and show up on the 1850 census there. Then in 1860, they show up on the Jefferson county census around the town of Warrior. Next I have them on the 1870 census in Tuscaloosa county census near the town of Elrod. I don't have anything after that point, so I presume that they died after that point in time and are possibly buried somewhere around Elrod, but don't know where. Hiram Roberts was a farmer and a doctor so there must be something showing up in Tuscaloosa county about him and his family, but I haven't found anything. Can anyone on this list help me make a connection that might help in my search? I have a webpage on Rootsweb of my family genealogy that gives more details if you want to take a look and see if you might have a connection at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~jrob/roberts.htm Take care, James Roberts

Looking for info on Richard Hampton and Nancy Poe and their children and their parents. They were listed on the 1850 Tuscaloosa Co. AL census on page 209, Family #219, District #2, Enumerated on Nov. 13, 1850 by E. A. Powell: R. H. Poe - Male, age 38 (b. 1812), b. NC, a merchant. Nancy - Female, age 38 (b.1812), b. TN William T. - M, age 17 (b. 1833), AL, Clerk Monica (?) C. - F, age 15 (b. 1835), AL Elizabeth - F, age 12 (b. 1838), AL James A. - M, age 10 (b. 1840), AL Richard R. - M, age 7 (b. 1843), AL Mary E. - F, age 5 (b.1845), AL Roda A. - F, age 5 months (b. 1850), AL Marion F. Bell - M, age 19, (b. 1831), AL, Clerk (Also listed with this family.) I do not know who Richard Hampton Poe's parents were. According to ages, he may have been a s/o Simon Poe, Jr. (b. abt 1782) and Margaret McMillian (b. abt. 1790). However, I am just guessing about that as I do not have a list of Simon, Jr. and Margaret (McMillian) Poe's children. I would like to have a list of that family. I am really interested in the surname of Nancy, wife of Richard Hampton Poe. The primary family I am researching is the Yerby/Yearby family. Everette and Sarah (McMillian) Yerby, who came to Tuscaloosa Co. AL about 1817, had a daughter, Nancy, whom I have very little info about. She was probably their youngest child. The Bethel Baptist Church, Northport, AL records show that a Nancy Yerby was dismissed from the church in June 1835. The Yerby's came from Rutherford Co. TN to AL. The 1850 census record for Richard Hampton Poe states that his wife, Nancy, was born in 1812 in TN. The Everette Yerby came from Mecklenburg Co. NC to Rutherford Co. TN about 1808/09. So, their daughter, Nancy, may have been born in Rutherford Co. TN. I do not know her birth date. The Yerby, McMillian and Poe families were close and did some intermarrying. Just trying to determine IF Nancy Yerby, d/o Everett and Sarah Yerby, was the wife of Richard Hampton Poe. Would appreciated any info on the Richard Hampton Poe family whether his wife was Nancy Yerby or not. Hildred Carlson
