I am here to share information and to request it. I am descended from Howell by one of the illigetimate children he had with his mistress Nancy Hodge. Howell and Nancy had 6 children, and if you look at the 1840 Census, you will find Howell living with a younger woman and 6 minor children (although he later denied this living arrangement in his answer to the divorce petition filed by his wife Elizabeth). Now, his illigetimate daughter, Caroline Matilda, married a man named Levi C Ponder. On the 1850 Census record where Elizabeth is found, you will find that she is living next to Levy(sp) C Ponder and his wife Caroline and their infant daughter Nancy J. Just a few families above Levi is Green Lee Holley, and his wife and children. Evidently, the half-siblings got along quite well. I know of two sons that Howell had by Nancy Hodge; James M and John.
