The Battle of Horseshoe Bend, part of the War of 1812, was fought here. There are lots of hills and tributaries that feed into the river. In 1911, most people still got around on foot. A bad storm, a wrong turn, a slip, and it would be easy for someone to go missing. Heck, there is mostly forest land there now. It would be easy to get lost. Add wildlife and you can imagine what could happen. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
