I have Mary Jane Stephens who married Joseph Marion Adair 1861 in Tallapoosa Co. In 1860 there were two Joseph Adair's in Tallapoosa, one b. 1829 the other 1839, both b. GA, but NOT one b. 1844. In the civil war records there appears to have been two Jospeh Adair's there also, one in Co. C 57 AL who enlisted at 18 in Goodwater (Coosa Co.)(b. 1844), and the other who enlisted at 22 @ Cusseta (Chambers Co.)(b.1839) in Co. H John Thompson's Mounted Vols. This second Joseph M. Adair died in service, as Mary Jane filed in 1863 as widow. The J.M. Adair b. 1844 lived & married Sarah Frances Blair in 1867. It seems everyone, I mean everyone, has the two J.M. Adair's combined as the same one, marrying both women, which has to be wrong. Can anyone else help shed light on this? Here's the Alabama Civil War Soldiers database with the Adair's: http://www.archives.alabama.gov/civilwar/results.cfm Thanks for any help!
