Smyrna Cemetery is located in Coosa co about 1 & 1/2 mi southeast of Goodwater. About 26 pages are printed in Vol II of Coosa Cemeteries. A few Humphreys are shown with tombstones but probably others were buried without stones. I know it is one of Coosa's earlliest cemeteries and ocassionally the local Boy Scouts will clean the grounds as do others of the Coosa Co Historical Society. Mrs. Mavis Sallas helped research this cemetery and lives less than a block from the courthouse. She is a great genealogist and might be able to search some of the court records. Coosa's records are in good condition for the most part. No Humphrey grooms are shown in the "Coosa Marriages/1834-1865" published by yours truly (Edna McGalliard in 1972). The issue is for sale by the CCHS along with other publications. Good luck with your wanderings and by the way. We have until March 15th to submit a short story of your Coosa ancestors. If they were here before 1890, 1000 words is Ok along with 2 photos. After 1890 to present, 500 words is permissable with 1 photo. Mavis is involved in the Heritage Book program and could tell you more. Edna Bridges (EdnaMcGal@AOL.com)
