Reference the questions about the "Committee reserves the right to delete spurious material." I have seen and at least scanned all of the stories submitted to date and found nothing that would fit that description. It is my view that "spurious material" would come under the heading of libelous material. It would not be good to say that someone was a "bastard", but nothing would be wrong in saying that the same person's Mother was unwed or that the person was born out of wedlock. That says the same thing, but in a different manner. If the person was known as a "bastard" and there is no reason for a possible legal recourse, what is wrong with saying so. As for photos - there is no reason not to publish any legitimate photo that would not be considered "pornographic" (that means different things to different persons). There is no reason to edit or refuse publication of the history of a family just because the story does not fit with what someone on the committee feels is wrong. I personally will stand up for any story that does not have something in it that might be considered libelous. Most people do not want "skeletons" advertised to the general public, but what is wrong with a story that mentions that cousin whats-his-name was hanged as a horse thief if that is true and the writer wants to put it in the story. Personally, I think that this controversy is "null and void". We do not check what is written for accuracy because that is none of our business or real concern. We hope that the information is accurate, but I have found stories published in the books of other counties that had inaccurate information. Some was completely incorrect and I know because it concerned a line that I am researching. The writer had found misleading information and the conclusion was wrong. When I made personal contact with the writer of the story, we understood the circumstances and corrected it on a personal basis. Please submit your stories. If there is some problem, which I doubt, I will personally contact you about it if you have your e-mail address with the story. The new deadline is 31 Oct. Please do not forget the two new sections - Military stories and couples who were or have been married more than fifty years. These are specialty stories and each can have a picture with them. I hope that this clears up the questions. If not please contact me direct <phoneman@ro.com> and I will get an answer for you. I am sincerely sorry about the confusion this has caused. Jack
