Mary: The state lines did not move. Go to Dollarhide and Thorndale's Census Map Guide. Check the maps for each census year. If your guy was born in GA in 1800, you'll find him in extreme East GA. I would guess in the upper portion. Use the Georgia Land Lottery Books, particularly the 1805 one. Use the list of Beards to see where people of that name lived in Georgia. THEN start using the county records of those counties. What you ALSO need to do is use the county records in the counties in ALABAMA where your people were. I am assuming the Montgomery, Macon, Lowndes Counties you refer to in your email were the Al counties, not the GA counties of the same name. No matter where you live, you SHOULD have a Mormon Family History Center somewhere nearby. You can borrow microfilm on both GA and AL from them and use them in your area. You don't need to go to AL or GA or even Salt Lake. Good Luck. Hello Everyone, I could use some new ideas. I have been researching BERRY BEARD for a few years. On the Census, BERRY is showing born Georgia around 1800. I have found him in Montgomery, Macon, Lowndes Counties. He married his wife 1821 Montgomery County. He is listed in 1840 Macon County Alabama with 10 children, 5 boys and 5 girls. I am trying to figurer out where in Georgia he was born, the names of the oldest 4 or 5 children, and who his parents are or where to look. I thought he had moved from Georgia to Alabama, but I think that the state lines moved during that time. Maybe he didn't. If someone has any ideas please e-mail me at Mary9012@aol.com. Thank you any help would be greatly appreciated. Mary Russell Beard
