Glenda: I have no idea if this will help, but, it could be a hint. My Day family of Perry Co, someof whom were later in Tallapoosa Co came from Laurens District SC. Prior to Laurens the Days were from Culpeper Co, Va. Also, on that same migration path ie-Culpper Co, Va and Laurens SC were a family of Griffins. They are intermarried into my family, but, I do not descend from them as far as I know. Also, on that same migration were my Gaines'. My War of 1812 ancestor, Richard Gaines born in 1781 in Culpeper Co, Va and of Laurens Dist SC moved to DeKalb Co Ga about 1830+ and died there in 1845. The Gaines came to Laurens Dist in the 1790's. Richard Gaines' wife was Mary Nancy Smith. I have done no research on this branch of Smiths. I would think they, too, may have been from Laurens District, SC -----Original Message----- From: Glenda and Paul Lowe [SMTP:lowe@lakemartin.net] Sent: Monday, November 23, 1998 10:24 PM To: ALTALLAP-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [RAN-CLAY-L] Re: RAN-CLAY-D Digest V98 #297 SMITH RESEARCHERS: I promised myself not to get involved with Smiths, but seeing this message, I just had to give it a try. I have a David Smith born about 1782, died 10, May 1857, buried New Site, Tallapoosa Co, AL.. He married Annette Margaret Griffin and they had a daughter Nancy born in Jasper Co., GA 1822 who married Henry Milton Simpson and resided in Tallapoosa Co., AL. David & Margaret Smith also had a son Green Smith who married Henry Milton Simpson's sister in Chambers Co., AL, but she died young and he remarried. Many Simpsons had the name Green in their name. Wonder where it came from. Would love to find out more of these Smiths and be glad to share info.
