Is anyone on this list researching Carter's that lived in Tallapoosa Co., AL? I am seeking info on Josephus "Joseph" W. Carter who married Frances E. Ross 1 Nov 1849 in Tallapoosa, Josephus was born about 1823 in AL and Frances was born about 1833 A. I have found them on the 1870 and 1880 Tallapoosa Co., AL Census with the following children: Charles b. abt 1856, John W. b. abt 1866 and Nancy E. Carter b. abt 1874, After that I haven't been able to locate them, nor have I found them prior to 1870. I'm not sure if they are kin but my 2nd great-grandmother and children were living with them on the 1880 census. Her name was Frances M. Mitchell b. 1842 with children: James W. b. abt. 1864, Francis L. b. abt 1868 and Eutarcus b. 1875. All were born in Georgia.Why was my Mitchell family living with this Carter family? I found in the book Historical And Genealogical Collections Of Dooly County, Georgia Volume I Compiled And Edited By Nora Powell & Watts Powell page 277 Carter, David T. d. Dooly Co. abt. 1866, wife Frances M. Children: Sarah L. David G. James W. all children over 14 in 1872. (The children of David T. Carter were grandchildren of David Carter and his wife Lucy of Tallapoosa County, Alabama.) Widow of David T. Carter married second a Mitchell. I also found marriage records on ancestry.com Georgia Marriages Francis M. Mitchell - Frances M. Carter 10 Apr 1861 Dooly County, Georgia Note: My great-grandfather, Eutarcus Mitchell was supposedly born in Dooly County, Georgia. I need help finding the Carter Mitchell connection.
