    3. Probably at Rocky Mount Church located on county road 79. About 4,5 miles from where it starts at highway 49 by the Horseshoe Bend National Park. If you are going from the park it is at the intersection of another county road. A little more then halfway to Daviston from the park. W. D. Bulger, one of the best known attorneys in Alabama and a prominent member of the Birmingham bar, is a native of Tallapoosa county, Ala., where he was born March 1, 1844, and where he secured his primary education. He then went to Dadeville, Ala., where he worked for five years in a printing office and then went to Marrysville, Tenn., where he attended school, until the spring of 1861, when he entered the Confederate service, enlisting in a company organized by Capt. Thrasher, while was assigned to the Thirty-eighth Tennessee infantry, and on the reorganization of that regiment, in the summer of the same year, private Bulger, was made commissary, and served in that capacity for about a year. He then resigned and enlisted as a private soldier, in the Forty- seventh Alabama regiment, which was organized by his father, M. J. Bulger, who soon became its colonel. He served in this regiment until the battle of Chickamauga, where he was wounded, and after partially recovering, he was assigned to detailed duty at Mobile, Ala. And commissioned lieutenant-colonel of the Third Alabama reserves, which rank he held at the close of the war. He was in the battles of Cedar Run, Second Manassas, Chantilly Farm, Fredericksburg, Sharpsburg or Antietan, Gettysbufg and Chickamauga. He was wounded in the right hop at Sharpsburg, and in the knee at Chickamauga. At the close of the war, Col. Bulger returned to this native county, and located at Dadeville, where he at once commenced the study of law, and in March, 1866, was admitted to the bar. He at once opened an office in Dadeville, and soon built up a lucrative practice remaining there until 1888, when he removed to Birmingham, Ala., where he now resides, and has a large practice. He was elected to represent Tallapoosa county in the lower house in 1870, and served one term. Col. Bulger was married in December, 1866, to Miss Amanda Crabb, daughter of James B. Crabb, of McConough, Ga., and to this union were born ten children, of whom six now survive. Col. Bulger’s father is M. J. Bulger, who is a native of South Carolina, born in Richland district, that state. He came to Alabama about 1820, locating in Tallapoosa county, where he now resides. He has served repeatedly in both houses of the Alabama legislature, and early in 1862, organized the Forty-seventh Alabama regiment, of which he was afterward made colonel, and served all through the war, receiving three wounds, while in service. He married Elizabeth M. Bozeman, a native of Alabama and to them were born four children, two of whom now survive, viz.: Col. W. D. Bulger of Birmingham, and Thomas L. Bulger of Tallapoosa county, Ala. Additional Comments: William D. Bulger was not in the 1900 census. His widow, Amanada was listed as head of household, born in Georgia in May 1847. Three daughters also lived with Amanda: Hennie A, b. July 1870, Fannie E., b. Oct. 1875, and Ruby, b. December 1886. 1. John Willis Bell
    2. The 1860 census of Randolph County (Wesobulga) shows William B. or R. Bell, Wife Elizabeth (Eliza Dillard), William B/R, Columbus W. (Walter), Eugenia A, Mary F (Frances/Fannie) and Alex Z (Alexander Steven). I believe the census taker heard Alex Zander so put the Z. down as an initial...but that's my little take on it. Backing up: In 1850 they were in Calhoun County, GA. There were two sons listed, James M (11) and John W (8). that weren't shown in William's HH in 1860 in AL. Back to the 1860 census. John W.(17) was shown in HH next to William R. and Eliza, with his wife, Mary A. (19). Somewhere prior to 1863 he died (reportedly at Chickamauga of pneumonia). On April 6, 1863 wife Mary An M. Bell (listed that way), widow, filed a claim for benefits. I believe that they had a son, Henry Walter Bell b. 1861 (whom I can't find on any census) and that sometime after 1863 she remarried. Family story is that she married a Worthy, but I can't find a record of that. I found where two of John's sister's married Worthys. He does have the one sister Mary, so family may have confused this. Anyway, Henry Walter is my great-grandfather. Story also goes that after remarrying, Mary, spouse and Henry Walter went "out west" where she was killed in a tornado. Stepfather (Worthy?) brought him (& possibly some siblings)back to "be raised" by his grandparents, William and Eliza. However, he does not show up on 1870 census or 1880 census in their HH. Don't know what time frame his mother was killed in, but if it was after 1880 he would pretty much be grown and not have a need to be "raised" by anyone. Possible he came after 1870 and then moved out of the HH prior to 1880 but hasn't been found in AL or GA. on census until he was married and he married in Alabama. Does anyone have any info on this family? Or marriage records on John Willis Bell and a Mary (middle name probably Ann, last name beginning with M). Since they were living in Randolph County at the time thought they might have been married there. Also wonder if they may have married in Tallapoosa County. Also need to find where/if Mary An M. Bell married someone in 1863 or shortly afterward. Anecdote: Henry Walter was so traumatized by the death of his mother in a tornado that when he bought his home in Sylacauga, he built a storm cellar. So any Bell kin out there that might have heard this story or who has any info? I will certainly share what information I have. Laura Pleasant Grove, AL
