DO YOU HAVE A MAGGIE HODNETT THAT MARRIED ALONZO HOLMAN? Virginia Howard.
The Hodnett Reunion is going to be Saturday, Sept. 2. They are planning to grill hamburgers and hot-dogs while the younger ones play in the river and the other socialize. They will get the hamburger patties and hot-dogs from Clark Brothers in Roanoke. Also they will get the buns, catsup, mustard, mayonnaise. The memo said the only thing you needed to bring from home is baked beans, slaw, desserts, drinks, ice, plates, cups, etc. The memo stated that anyone who wishes to bring their camping gear and stay longer is welcome to stay over. Also it stated to please invite any other Hodnett descendants. You need to notify Karlie J. Fortson at 13765 Bibbys Ferry Road, Wadley, AL 36276 if you are coming and about how many so they will know how much food to purchase. I do not have a phone number. Yes, that sounds like the entrance to the cemetary if it is on the Old Dadeville Road. This general area was referred to as Oakfuskee during the Civil War (there was a Post Office by that name nearby-not to be confused with the Creek village of Oakfuskee a little further down river). Since the lake was built it is now referred to as Peckerwood. There used to be a sign up saying that a key can be signed out at the Probate Judge's Office at the court house in Dadeville. If not, the cemetary is just a short walk up the road about 100 yards. Suspect it is very overgrown, I cleared it one Fall back in the early 1990's and marked some of the Confederate Soldier's graves there. Some of the concrete markers had been damaged by timber cutting operations back in the 1980's. http://www.hillabee.net Greg Wilson ----- Original Message ----- From: <JCrane6990@aol.com> To: <altallap@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, August 23, 2006 4:08 AM Subject: Re: [ALTALLAP] Old Liberty Cemetary > Is this the cemetery that has a locked gate across the entrance road? > Jeanette > Be sure to check out the Tallapoosa Co. A James H. Beard was a bondsman on the marriage bond for my great-grandparents, John William Adams and Nancy Jane Howell. This was in 1865 in Tallapoosa County. Also, a James Henry Beaird married Sarah Jane Adams in Tallapoosa County in 1857. My guess is that this James Henry Beaird is the same person as the James H. Beard who was the bondsman. My 3rd great-grandfather's name was James A. Beard. He was born in 1822 in AL (county unknown) but he was married twice in Tallapoosa Co. In 1841, he married Mahala Todd (apparently the daughter of James and Hattie Bailey Todd) After she died in AR, he returned to AL in 1848 to marry Molsey Robertson (born in SC, daughter of Joseph Robertson and Rebecca Hancock.) Does anyone have any other Beards (Baird, Beaird, Byrd, Bird, etc) living in Tallapoosa Co around that same time? Karen
Do you have a middle name for William? I have a book that includes a lot of Ellis, and several are named William. The only Gates marriage in it is James D. Ellis & Matilda Ann Gates, but there are connections to Tallapoosa Co. in that James died there. These Ellis people came from Troup Co. GA before they came to Tallapoosa.
