    3. Evelyn - I'm a Bryant researcher who has hit a brick wall. My g-g-father was Thomas Jefferson (aka T.J or Jeff according to census records) who was born abt 1827 in GA(unknown location). Married first to a Sarah Ann E. Day and secondly to Lucinda June Sessions ('I'm a product of the Sessions marriage). Thomas and his wives all lived in Chambers Cty or Tallapoosa Cty Ala and are found in 1850,1860 and 1870 census. I do not know where they are buried or when they died. In addition I do not know Thomas's parents names but suspect a William Bryant on page 7 of the 1840 Chambers Cty Ala census to be either a parent or perhaps a sibling. Does the name Thomas Jeff or his "aka's" strike a note or do you have information on the William in the 1840 Chambers Cty record? I suspect Thomas parents might have come from S.C but am unable to find any clues in the Spartenburg records I've seen. Any help will be sincerly appreciated. Please contact me direct at rlbtwo@cox.net Thanks Robert (Bob) Bryant ----- Original Message ----- From: "Evelyn" <esleslie@bellsouth.net> To: <altallap@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, October 21, 2006 8:28 AM Subject: [ALTALLAP] Wm. 3. Jeff, in the catalog for the Birmingham Public library I found this: Old southern Bible records: transcriptions of births, deaths, and marriages from family Bibles Lester, Memory Lee Alldredge, 1892- Baltimore, Genealogical Pub. Co., 1974. Also, Bible and cemetery records. Birmingham Genealogical Society. Birmingham, Ala., 1962-66. Maybe one of these is what you're looking for? Margaret

    3. Anne, Thanks for the reply. I know that that was not the book. It was specifically a book of transcripts of Bible family records. 3. Thanks for the additional info, Jeff. Our Bryants were from SC and intermarried with MATHIS, PENNINGTON and MASTERS, amongst others. Our William appears to have been in Autauga Co. prior to coming to Talladega/Tallapoosa area. They were affiliated with the Tallasahatchie Bapt. Church according to 1846 records. If this is "our" William, he went by the name Dave and I didn't see a William Augustus BRYANT in my notes. Thanks again, Evelyn

    3. Evelyn, According to the transcript: "The Bible is in the possession of Henry Neill Segrest, Tuskegee, Alabama." I failed to record which book I copied this info from, but I believe the title to be something like "Southern Family Bible Records". Which William are you searching for? I am descended from William Augustus Bryant, born in Oglethorpe Co, GA in 1844. He lived in Tallapoosa Co most of his life. He had at least two wives, and 13 children -- all but two living fairly long lives. He died in Birmingham in 1914. 3. Hello Robert. 1. I was not the person who asked about connection to Covington Co. I do not know of any of my Bryants settling there. 2. I haven't really researched those Bryants that were in Alabama before 1840. My John Bryant came to Alabama in the late 1840's. I have found references to a William who was declared a "lunatic" and have copies of some of that, but no age or ancestry on him. (I think we discussed him briefly before, also.) 3. I do have a transcription of bible records that list some Bryants. The transcription says that one or two pages are missing. The first entry listed is a William T. Bryant born(de) 29 January 1830. It then lists: James W. Bryant - 14 March 1831 John T. Bryant - 17 March 1832 Cornelius L. Bryant - 21 December 1833 Martha C. Bryant - 18 September 1835 Julious S. Bryant - 2 May 1837 Mary E. Bryant - 24 April 1839 Felix T. Bryant - 9 June 1840 Louisiana Bryant - 29 August 1841 Sarah J. Bryant - 24 April 1843 Josephine V. Bryant - 21 September 1845 Malissia Bryant - 26 September 1847 C.L. Bryant and E.A. Driggers - married 7 December 1865 Malissia Bryant and James Slocumb married Sept. 1867 - James M. Bryant b. Apr 23, 1866 Janie A. Bryant b. Oct 15, 1871 James & Janie married June 21, 1891 It goes on to list James & Janie's children, then the children of CL & EA, and Slocumb births. Then a few deaths (not Wm. T) and more births, but not who the parents were. I typed all that & then realized you are looking for a William "G", or a Thomas "J" . I got confused & thought you needed William T. Oh, well. Maybe this will help someone. - Jeff - On 10/18/06, robert bryant <rlbtwo@cox.net> wrote: > > Jeff - I'm not aware of any of my clan being in Covington Co however My > g-g-father had a son, his oldest, named William G who was in Winston > Co Ala > in 1880. 2. Glenda, don't worry but I am totally confused too, however, the other children mentioned in the 1850 Scott Co. census have been proven by previous family members back in the 60's to be my Virginia's siblings. Augustus also known as Gus, is in McLennan Co.TX the same time as Virginia and so is Sarah Jane. The Virginia Sparks who is living with her parents in Saline Co. married a Edwin F. Gaar Dec 1, 1868 and my Virginia clearly was a Smith by the 1870 McLennan Co. TX census with 4 Smith children born between 1862 and 1868. Does this make sense? Please e mail me directly at _neatstuffgifts@aol.com_ (mailto:neatstuffgifts@aol.com) because I only take this mailing list in digest form and only get it once a day, usually over night. Is this James R. in this message the one for whom you are looking for some guardianship papers, estate settlement or something? On page 2 of the Modified Register for William Lowe Mason, mentions William married Virginia A. Sparks, daughter of James "Jim" Sparks & Susan Harbin or Downs ---- Virginia was born 25 Mar 1842 in AL etc. I see on page 3 that Virginia is on 1850 census in Missouri with John Price & Georgeana Price. But what confuses me is before that on the 1860 Saline Co., MO census showing Virgini Sparks age 7 with her parents James M. & Mrs. M. R. Sparks. IS THIS NOT THE ONE FOR WHOM YOU ARE LOOKING FOR PAPERS IN TALLAPOOSA CO., AL? I may have misunderstood (but heck I am 71 yrs old & have earned the right to misunderstand things, huh?) Sorry to be so complicated, but I am very interested in this family. Thanks for sharing with me. Glenda
