Went to church with some of them for many years. Though I'm not kin to your Smiths, I grew up with a lady that I called Aunt Mary Vaughn (Smith) who is kin to your Smiths. She passed away almost a year ago. She, her husband, and family lived in Alexander City, AL. Her mom married a Smith, but I can't remember his name right now. Did you ever find any info on your Smiths? Even though we are not kin by way of the Smiths, we are distant kin by way of the Tauntons. When I have time, I'll go through my Taunton info & see what I can find. Can send you a file for our Tauntons, if you want me to do so. 1. [ALTALLAP] Ancestor Swap Meet 2014
    2. RoseMary Hyatt
    3. ----- Forwarded Message ----- From: RoseMary Hyatt <[email protected]> To: "[email protected]" <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, February 11, 2014 10:16 AM Subject: Ancestor Swap Meet 2014 Ancestor Swap Meet 2014 Northeast Alabama Genealogical Society “North & South” 150 years after the U.S. Civil War, please join us as we remember our ancestors and the lives they lived during this terrible time in the history of our nation. It doesn’t matter if  they wore Blue or Gray, their DNA runs deep in us.  Many of you have already found the confederate soldier and documented his service.  You may have joined the Sons of Confederate Veterans or the United Daughters of the Confederacy.  How many have found that Union soldier and researched his service?  We want to honor everyone who lived during this period in our history. On Friday night March 21, 2014 we will have a Memorial Dinner Theater honoring our Civil War Ancestors.  We will enjoy a special dinner similar to what might have been served during a time prior to the Civil War in the south; when food was in good supply.  As a part of this special evening we will show “My Grandfather’s Watch”, performed by of Button Willow Church in Whitwell, TN.  The dinner theater will take place in the beautifully restored Pitman Theater in Historic Downtown Gadsden. A night out for dinner and a movie would probably cost more than our dinner theater. But you wouldn’t be spending it with a room full of people searching for that elusive ancestor.  Those attending will also share the desire to honor those ancestors who took part in making us the people we are today. Dress for the dinner theater will be casual unless you would like to come dressed in your Civil War period finest. There will be a special box to be checked on the registration form for the dinner if the ladies attending plan to wear hoops, we want to seat them comfortably.  A discount on the dinner theater will be available to those attending both Friday night and Saturday. Saturday, March 22, 2014 the Ancestor Swap Meet will be held at the Senior Activity Center, 623 Broad St., in Gadsden, AL.  J. Mark Lowe, CG will be our speaker as we  explore and remember the Civil War.  The day will be divided into two sessions just like in days of old; one session will explore the North and the other session will explore the South.  New information and areas to research will make the Ancestor Swap Meet a good day for all attending.  Due to space limitations please no Civil War dress at the Saturday meeting.  As usual the day will be filled with fellowship, fun, door prizes and a hot lunch.  If you’ve looked at other genealogical events you will find we’re a “bargain”.   Hope you will take advantage and plan to attend Ancestor Swap Meet 2014 and the Friday night Dinner Theater. In an effort to keep the memories alive, please send us a story or stories about your Civil War Families. We will put all those stories we receive in a special notebook for the shelf at Nichols Memorial Library or if you prefer we’ll put them in a family file for all to research.  For More information and the registration form, please go to www.neags.com

I have searched my book and find nothing to tie you to the Stogner line. I worked with my research for 31 years before printing my book and have nothing to indicate we are in the same family. I do have some books left. My book is 900 pages, 8-1/2x11 big and weighs 6 pounds! The biggest I could have printed at the time. It is $40. and that includes postage. As much as I would like to sell you one, I feel it will be useless in your search. But that is up to you. It does, however, include some data about John Barney Stagner, that traveled with Daniel Boone. I think I told you that I have a copy of the book written on the Stagner family. It actually is copied pages, since the book has been out of print for quite some time. At the present, I have it packed away in a box in the garage. If I can get my hands on it soon, I would be glad to print it for you if you could just pay for my expense and mailing. Since I have several boxes of data packed away, it may take some time to find it and if the temperature holds and garage isn't freezing cold. lol Gloria Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
