The word CHIECO or CHIEGO is printed next to the name TALLAPOOSA in a family Bible from the CLEMENTS family who lived in Tallapoosa Co. 1845 to at least 1860. Can anyone tell me to what or to whom this word would refer? Is it an Indian word? Please email. Many thanks, Adrienne <yogagolf@aol.com>
I am looking for information about my grandfather, Marion Jefferson Scroggins, who lived in Tallapoosa County until about 1912 or so when he left and never returned. He is listed in the 1890, 1900, 1910 census, but I cannot find anything about his parents, both of whom were born in Georgia, according to the 1890 data. I believe his family lived around Red Ridge, just south of Dadeville. When he was with my grandmother, they lived in East Tallassee. Any information would be most appreciated. Thanks
Need birthdates and confirmation of the children of James D. Burt and Lodusta/Lunusta Strength, m. 08/04/1862 Tallapoosa Co., AL. A bible record gives: William Burt, John T. Burt, Mattie Burt (m. a Thornton), Louisa Burt, Ollie Burt and James Burt. However, my great grandfather, Charles H. Burt, b. 2/19/1866 is NOT listed in the bible record; but his death certificate lists James Burt and Lodusta Strength as his parents. Charles H. Burt m. Mary Frances (Fannie) Hall; unknown date/place. Charles died 12/30/1942, and Mary Frances d. 01/07/1921-both are buried in Greenwood Cem., Montgomery, AL. Charles and Mary Frances had a daughter called Ollie, but her name was really Olive. Can anyone help me out with this family? I will share what I have, and would appreciate any help. There were several Bishops not seen in the 1870 cesus, and I wonder if something could have befallen them as a part of the Civil War. Does anyone have any information regarding the units from Tallapoosa County? Also, If someone has an 1880 census Index, I would appreciate them looking for Bishops. Frank Roberts Petal, MS
I am interested in any data on the family of Hugh Lockett 1802-1858. His son, John Lufsy Lockett 1827-1890 was my grt-grt grandfather. Both Hugh and John L. were born in Georgia and died in Tallapoosa County, Al. John L. served in the C.S.A. The only papers I have show him as a Conscript in the 1st Alabama Regiment. Does this mean he was drafted? John's son, ABNER BRAZEL LOCKETT, 1855-1926 was born in Tallapoosa County and married Carrie Louise Adams in 1875. Their first child was PEARL ELIZ. LOCKETT born in 1878. I believe the family moved to Texas around 1885, but I can not find them on either the Texas or Alabama 1880 Census. Were there any locally taken Census or Tax Reports about this time, where Abner B. might be listed. I am trying to find out if she was born in Alabama or Texas. Would there be any birth records at this time? I'm looking for any info on the following surnames: BANE/BAIN: In particular, in 1840 on the census there was an Abraham BANE living in Tallapoosa Cty. He isn't on the 1850 census, but there is a Sarah Bain that is 63 years old (his wife was 53 in 1840). Sarah has a son named Benjamin, age 21, living with her. Next door to them is James M Bain, age 26, with wife Sarah. From marriage records I've found a Bathina BANE married to Henry PEOPLES in Tallapoosa Cty. From marriage records I've found Cynthia BANE married to Nerias KEATH in Tallapoosa Cty. ** I think Abraham and Sarah BANE are parents to James, Benjamin, Bathina, and Cynthia. I'm looking for info on any descendants from this group. TUCKER: From marriage records I've found that James BANE married Sarah Ann TUCKER in 1848. The BAIN surname is spelled differently, but they are one and the same. I'm looking for any info on her. I know nothing of her parents. HARRIS: From marriage records I've found that Benjamin BANE married Lourena Harris. Lourina may have been a middle name. I've found references to her as "Ludie" and Caroline. I think Caroline Lourena HARRIS wsa her full name. I'm looking for any information on her. ** Note... James BAIN and Benjamin BAIN both moved to Columbia Cty, Arkansas. Both fought in Ark 1st Cavalry (Monroe's) Company K. Both brothers survived the Civil War. James was killed farming his fields after 1870. James' wife and children moved to CADDO PARISH, Louisiana. Some of Benjamin's family ended up in UPSHUR CTY, Tx. James Bain was my g-g-g-grandfather. Any info on him or any of his family would be helpful! Thanks, Kenny Bain

Hey Jennifer: I'm just passing thru and checked my email. I am researching William C. Davidson b 1817 SC and resided in T'poosa Co. Their dau Ann Hasaltine m Akin. The Akins tied into Simmons and I have a good bit of info on them. I am also researching the Cosbys and have them way back. They also intermarried Simmons. I have a William Sherred Hays that was born in the 1820's, I think, but he lived in the north end of county whereby there were a lot of Hays in the lower end. There is a Hays Mill road. The Kimbroughs are mentioned and I think we have some pictured of them, but we don't know the connection. I will definitely get back with you. I have gathered info even tho it didn't connect, but it is in no order. Have you any system for putting that sort of stuff? Glad to know of your research and let me know how you connect to the above.
