Hello again fellow list mates. I have found the following information in a book called Alabama Records Vol. 212 -- Tallapoosa Co, AL. It is as follows: Page 99 of book -- Marriage Book page 166 -- Jackson JOHNSON to Nancy MILNER 6 Oct 1845 (solmnized on 7th) by D.B. CULBERSON, M.G.; William J. HUMPHRIES, bondsman. Page 100 of book -- Marriage Book page 168 -- William J. HUMPHRIES (also to Nancy E. MILNER written HUMPHREY) 28 Oct 1845 (solemnized 30th) by A. BURNS, J.P.; James F. BRAY, bondsman. Now a question or two -- What is a bondsman? What did it mean "also to Nancy E. MILNER"? Were these two Nancys cousins? Strange isn't it, but interesting. William J. and Nancy E. are my ancesters. There has been mentioned by other family members that William's mother's name was JOHNSON. That happens to be William's middle name. I have been unable to find wither William or Jackson in any 1850 censuses. I find William in TX in 1860 and 1870. Nancy died on 22 Feb 1853 in Tallapoosa Co, AL. William latter married a Sarah E. WHEELER and they left AL for MS then to TX. I would appreciate any info on these people or any help in solving where they may have been in 1850. Thanks for your time and good luck and good hunting in all of your researches...John Lowery
Could anyone do a look-up for me in Tallapoosa County AL 1850 census for the TAYLOR and FAULK families which lived next door to one another? Thanks, Virginia

This site has lots and lots of names. It has abstracts of the original Court Records of Augusta County, Virginia. The date begins 1745 Dec. and is up to 1799. Still under constuction. It is quite a large site and I haven't had the chance to search through all the records. Just wanted to share it with everyone. Virginia

According to this record her father is a George Knight. There is a Tallapoosa death record for George W. Knight, SR d 14 Mar 1817 age 84 of La Grippe. I am researching family of Calvary F. Knight. His, son Henry D. Knight, had a dau named Georgia Ann Knight. This Georgia Ann married a Finch. Both she and her spouse are buried at Red Ridge Methodist Cemetery. There is in the Tallapoosa CO Death Records mention of a Knight burying ground. Minnie Knight Pruitt, dau of a George Knight, and a George Phillips (d 30 Jul 1910) son of M. E. Phillips and Ella Knight Phillips (9 Mar 1914) are bu there. Ella Knight Phillips is the dau of a George Knight. I'd like to know more about these Tallapoosa Knights. Does any one have knowledge of this Knight burying ground? Regards, Paula

I read of a reverend who stood to speak at the funeral of his friend. He referred to the dates on her tombstone from the beginning...to the end. He noted that first came the date of her birth and spoke of the following date with tears, but he said what mattered most of all was the dash between those years. For that dash represents all the time that she spent alive on earth, and now only those who loved her know what that little line is worth. For it matters not, how much we own; the cars, the house, the cash. What matters is how we live and love and how we spend our dash. So think about this long and hard, are there things you'd like to change? For you never know how much time is left. (You could be at "dash mid-range.") If we could just slow down enough to consider what's true and real, and always try to understand the way other people feel. And be less quick to anger, and show appreciation more and love the people in our lives like we've never loved before. If we treat each other with respect, and more often wear a smile, remembering that this special dash might only last a little while. So, when your eulogy is being read with your life's actions to rehash... would you be pleased with the things they say about how you spent your dash? ----------
There is a Michael SUMMERTAIN listed in the Tallapoosa 1850 Census, page 74, TWP 21. Can anyone help me with info on him? I do not have ages or children for him. Any info or lookup will be greatly appreciated. SUMMERTAIN is a possible variant of the SUMMERLIN spelling. I'm trying to connect my ancestor Glisson SUMMERLIN to a Michael "Mack" SUMMERLIN or SUMMERELL b. ca 1767 NC and s/o Jacob and Charity GLISSON SUMMERELL (VA>Duplin Co. NC 1742-?.) My Glisson SUMMERLIN was born 1805 NC and died 1882 Clay County Alabama. Thanks, Fred Summerlin fsummerlin@worldnet.att.net
