2. In a message dated 8/23/98 11:55:39 AM EST, phoneman@ro.com writes: << The committee for the Heritage Book for Tallapoosa Co. has not been formed yet. There have been several attempts at forming the committee, but there have not been enough people coming to the meeting to do that yet. The company is going to try again later this year to once again form a committee. I have attended several committee meetings in Marion Co. and this was the latest information from the company. I do not know how the company goes about getting information out about the formation of a committee. >> For additional information on various counties, click here Heritage Books of Alabama Tallapoosa is not included on the list of books in progress. 3. Glenn Barnett b.1795 d. after 1870 census Tallapoosa/Coosa county had a daughter named EMALINE BARNETT who married 1854 Jackson Boyd who was killed in the Civil War. In 1870 she and three sons, Daniel, John and Leonard, were living with her father Glenn in Coosa Co close to the Tallapoosa Co line. Does anyone know what happened to her and the children? She stayed in the area because my family remembered one of her children. Did she remarry? Where is she buried?

3. Can anyone help me in the next two days!!!! Was there ever a community in Tallapoosa County named DESOTO! MY DAR application papers for Joseph Royal Barnett came back in 1996 with "DeSoto" as the death place for Joroyal's son GLENN BARNETT - also they had marked thru my after 1870 and said "ca 1860" and I know that is incorrect as he was on the 1870 census in Coosa Co, Ala. I have tried to correct this so in years past but no results. Decided to send in application supplement paper for my daughter on Joseph Royal Barnett to CORRECT this. But need to know if there was a town named DESOTO. Janice

1. GAMBLE, DAVIS AND HORSLEY FAMILY RESEARCH
2. Jack F. Shotts, Sr.
3. Researching the GAMBLE, DAVIS and HORSLEY Families of Tallapoosa Co.. My primary interest is in the ancestors of John Bennett GAMBLE, his wife, Syntha Matilda BILLINGSLEY, James Madison DAVIS, John HORSLEY and his wife, Sarah POWELL, who was previously married to William Lassiter. John Bennett GAMBLE and Syntha Matilda BILLINGSLEY/BILLINGSLEA came to Tallapoosa Co. about 1852. They had nine children. They were members of Ephesus Primitive Baptist Church and are buried in that cemetery. I have been unable to find definitive information on the parents of Syntha Matilda. Have some information on the parents of John Bennett -- James Madison GAMBLE and Mary "Polly" BENNETT. James Madison DAVIS and Matilda Jane GOGGANS came to Tallapoosa Co. from Forsyth, Monroe Co., GA at about the same time that John Bennett and Syntha Matilda GAMBLE did. They had eleven children and are supposed to be buried at Ephesus Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in an unmarked grave. I have a considerable amount of information on Matilda Jane's paternal ancestors but almost nothing on the maternal side. Most of the information that I have on James Madison's ancestors is sketchy and unconfirmed. The GAMBLE and DAVIS lines are my maternal line. I would really like to find more about them, their ancestors and the descendants of the DAVIS line. I have considerable information on the descendants of the GAMBLES. John HORSLEY and Sarah POWELL came to Tallapoosa Co. about this same time. Sarah is supposed to have died in Youngsville, Tallapoosa Co. I have nothing on the death of John. A son, Leroy Moses, married Elizabeth Matilda DAVIS, ( she was a sister to my g-grandmother, Sarah "Sally" DAVIS ) dau of James Madison and Matilda Jane DAVIS. I have information on his descendants. I would appreciate any information on these families. Will gladly share information. Jack F. SHOTTS < phoneman@ro.com > Huntsville, AL.

1. Re: Heritage Book
2. Hi, to all, Tallapoosa Co doesn't have a mailing address yet for the Heritage Book. I was told in July that it would be a couple of months, probably, bef they do have one. I don't think that they are trying to keep articles out of the book, i just think they are having a hard time getting everything organized. Could be they can't get enough volunteers to help. It would be good to go ahead and get ur article written or at least start on it and then u won't be rushed when and if they do get a deadline set. They aren't the only ones who haven't been organized. Coosa County is still meeting and if i am not mistaken, Jefferson Co, also. Here is a list of other counties and their deadlines: Chambers deadline is August 31st, Etowah's is Sep 30th, Walker's is Sep 30th, Blount's is Sep 30th, Marshall's is Sep 30th, Greene's is Oct 31th, Hale's is Oct 31st, Tuscaloosa's is Sep 30th, Pickens is Sep 30th, Autauga's is Oct 31st, Marion's is Sep 30th, Fayette's is Aug 31st, Franklin's is Aug 31st, Colbert's is Aug 31st,and Chilton's is Aug 31st.
