    3. Glenda: I have no idea if this will help, but, it could be a hint. My Day family of Perry Co, someof whom were later in Tallapoosa Co came from Laurens District SC. Prior to Laurens the Days were from Culpeper Co, Va. Also, on that same migration path ie-Culpper Co, Va and Laurens SC were a family of Griffins. They are intermarried into my family, but, I do not descend from them as far as I know. Also, on that same migration were my Gaines'. My War of 1812 ancestor, Richard Gaines born in 1781 in Culpeper Co, Va and of Laurens Dist SC moved to DeKalb Co Ga about 1830+ and died there in 1845. The Gaines came to Laurens Dist in the 1790's. Richard Gaines' wife was Mary Nancy Smith. I have done no research on this branch of Smiths. I would think they, too, may have been from Laurens District, SC -----Original Message----- From: Glenda and Paul Lowe [SMTP:lowe@lakemartin.net] Sent: Monday, November 23, 1998 10:24 PM To: ALTALLAP-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [RAN-CLAY-L] Re: RAN-CLAY-D Digest V98 #297 SMITH RESEARCHERS: I promised myself not to get involved with Smiths, but seeing this message, I just had to give it a try. 2. Glenda: We think it was a General Green in the RW that caused some of these to be carrying that name. Not sure...can't even remember if he was a general....but we read something of the sort in the past. Thanks for the post; your Smith names were in Tallapoosa too and you live in Dadeville where we did some research years ago. 1. Britt
    2. I accidentally sent my request to subscribe without the -request in the address, and got a message saying I was subscribed anyway. Amazing what those folks at Rootsweb can do. It appears to me that Larry Britt sold off all his property in Robeson County, NC, by 1838 or 1839. He is not listed in the 1840 or 1850 census for Robeson. The AIS census index on microfiche at the LDS family history center does not list Larry B Britt for 1840 or 1850 in Robeson County. It does show a L B Britt in the 1840 census for Monroe Co, GA. This film is not in our library, so I wasn't able to find out the age range etc for him. Did find this for 1850 Tallapoosa Co, AL L B Britt 50 NC Ann 37 NC John 18 nC Lewis 16 NC Anna 12 GA Nancy 6 SC Easter 4 AL Sarah 1 AL Looks to me like he was in GA by 1838 or so, that his wife died and he had remarried by 1843 or so, perhaps in SC, and then went to Tallapoosa Co. Would like to hear from anyone researching this Britt family.
