    1. LDS Search
    2. Thought everyone could benefit from this info. This Should Answer Question About LDS SEARCH Hello Fellow Researchers, I have been bombarded with questions on the Family Search Website and would like to pass on to you the information I received when I spoke to an "Official" Church spokesperson at Family Search. He advised me of the following: The OFFICIAL LDS Church website is LDS.ORG Go to media resources and find News update. The church is posting updates as they come in as to the state of the family search. Within 3 or 4 minutes of the NEWS UPDATE ANNOUNCING the FAMILY SEARCH is online. They will post it THERE! SO Keep checking. Should be a couple of days. It will be a MASSIVE SITE. They are prepared to test this site using anyone who wishes to go to it and use it. THERE WILL BE NO PASSWORD TO ACCESS IT. The rumor about the password was incorrect. When the site was put up it was restricted to a few....about 100 people who designed it and are putting the finishing touches on it, someone there LEAKED, YES LEAKED, (AN EMPLOYEE) and that is why some of you got in. When the masses bombarded the site it crashed cause it was not finished. They have now given each worker an INDIVIDUAL PASSWORD, SOOOOO IF it gets leaked again they will know who did it. It has been postponed being put online a few days because of the crash. There are now about 12 popular stories going around about Family Search. I ASSURE YOU MINE CAME FROM A CHURCH SPOKESMAN. IF you pass information about the site on to others please just send them this message I have sent you. The whole message. Now please remember this. 1. Go to LDS.org 2. Find Media Resources 3. Check News Updates That will inform you when it is going online. Please notify everyone you know who will be interested. I hope this helps you all. You have my permission to pass this note on to any Genealogy Lists you wish. Again, Please pass the whole note not just sections of it or we will have more rumors. Thanks, Karen Gaughan in Pa. 3. Looking for the parents of W. T. WALLS b abt. 1851. He went to Arkansas. W. T. also appears as William Thomas WALLS. He married M. S. MADDEN who I show as Suda MADDEN, daughter of Ezekial MADDEN in 1850 Tallapoosa (mother Mary). There's been conversation in the past about WALLS/WALLACE. Could W. T./William Thomas be a WALLACE?

    3. I am researching the JONES line in Tallapoosa/Dekalb Countys. The family relocated to Dekalb County from Tallapoosa, Alabama. They are found in the 1860 census in Tallapoosa. Descendants of Henry Jones 1 Henry Jones b:1820 .. +Huldy A. b:1820 m: Bef. 1858 ..... 2 Missouri A.E. Jones b: July 1845 ......... +Mordecai D. Farris b: April 1837 m: February 10, 1870 in Tallapoosa, AL ..... 2 Roxanna S. Jones b: 1848 ..... 2 Wealthy A. Jones b: 1849 (may have married Eli BAKER) ..... 2 John W. Jones b: 1853 ......... +Sara Elizabeth Carter ..... 2 Sely A. Jones b: 1854 ..... 2 Charlotte Jones b: 1856 (may have been called Emma) ..... 2 George H. Jones b: 1857 ......... +Fannie Cunningham m: June 30, 1889 .... 2 Martin S. Jones b: 1859 ..... 2 Noah S. Jones b: February 24, 1861 d: September 06, 1944 ......... +Patsy b: February 21, 1859 d: February 05, 1929 Does anyone know if John Wesley Jones b 3-13-1851 is the John in the above family. I found an article about him in "Heritage of Dekalb County, Alabama". Thomas Fletcher King married Beaula Jones. She was the daughter of George H. Jones above. Thomas was postmaster in Sylvania, Al. I believe that Charlotte Jones may have been called "Emma". She married William Alexander Causey. According to census, Henry Jones was from Georgia. If anyone has information about this JONES line. Please share with me. Thanks so very much, Joan Green

    3. I am posting this to warn others about problems with Census Microfilm Expeditors . I was lured to order several microfilm copies from this company with "guarantees" of "speedy delivery" and "low price" . My order was placed in October of 1998 and as of this posting I have not received the order or a refund after numerous contacts with Steven Jensen at this firm . In his occasional replies he repeatedly gave false information to me as to the status of the order and cashed the check when mentioned stopping payment on it ( dumb on my part ) .I have copies of all documents and correspondences for those interested . Complaints have been filed with the Better Business Bureau and the United States Postal Inspectors , they have informed me that even they can't order this company to give a refund , but may seek criminal charges . I guess small claims court is next . If you are seeking genealogy resources......consider my experiences with this "Firm". Thank you , Kenneth Sartin

FH=Family History AF= Ancestral File RF=Reference File FHLC=Family History Library Center FS=Samily Search I have been on the phone the past hour trying to find out what programs/files will be available on the new web-site. I have talked to both the FHL and to FHC Support in order to get some information. Some of the people I talked with said they did not know. Others said that information could not be released at this time. I "hit the jackpot" on my last phone call. I talked to a Brother who was able to answer most of my questions. He was in a meeting last weekand received his information directly from the person who is doing the web-site. These are some of the things he could remember about the beta test. It will have only a few things at first. It will begin with the AF and FHLC. Things will be added. They want see what kind of a response they will have. they want to get a count of the number of people who will use the site. They need this information prior to Gen. Conf. in order to make a final decision about going on-line or not. If they decide to have a permanent FH web site, it will be announced at conference. Hello FH Friends, It's 10:30AM in Utah and I just talked to FHC Support about the new web site not being up. They said it was scheduled to go online today, however, they are having a few problems. Just as soon as these problems are cleared up, you will see it. Just keep watching for it. It still could be today or it might be tomorrow. At any rate it will be this week. They are working very hard to get it online today. He couldn't remember for sure if the following will be in the beta test orin the future, but he said the FHLC will have an Author/Title section (for now it is only on fiche) which is good news. I was excited to hear there will be a Reference File, in the future, where you can add your information to AF. It's format will be different from AF. The great thing about it is the fact that you'll be able to leave your notes/sources there. I was told that you will be able to see bothforms (RF & AF) at the same time. With the exception of a couple of things, all of the FS will be on-line in the future. I hope this information is all correct. My source sounded like he knew the facts. 1. Evans, Redden, Simmons in Walnut Hill
    2. I am looking for information of the Evans families who first appear in Tallapoosa County in the 1840 census. My ggg-grandfather, Walter Evans, was married to Barbara Redden. According the the 1850 census, Walter and Barbara were both from Georgia around 1820. I also have some indications that Barbara was either a Cherokee or Creek Indian. Walter later married Mary Simmons--I don't know what happened to his first wife. Walter lived in Walnut Hill. The later descendents of Walter moved to Notasulga, then to Covington County. In 1840, the only Evans who appeared in the census for Tallapoosa County was Jeremiah Evans. The 1850 census shows the following heads of household--George, Crawford (Elijah C.), Elizabeth, Jeremiah, Lewis, and Walter. I strongly suspect, although I cannot prove, that Jeremiah is Walter's father and that some of the others are his brothers. I would appreciate any information that anyone might have to help me put this puzzle together. I am particularly interested in finding out the following information: 1) Was Jeremiah Evans the father of Walter Evans? 2) Where is Georgia did these families come from? 3) Was Barbara Redden a Native American? 4) Who were Walter's sisters and brothers? 5) Where are Walter and Barbara buried? 6) What happened to Mary Simmons Evans, his second wife, after Walter died? Where is she buried? Thanks, Carl Evans

I have searched old maps, new maps and just can't locate it. It is supposed to be in one of the Alabama Counties that border Florida. My wife's Greatgrandmother Mollie Feaster or Ward or Anderson died there. Feaster was her maiden name, Ward and Anderson were married names and I don't know which one she went by when she died. I have tried to get a death cert. from Alabama but have not been sucessful. She moved to Baggett's Fork from Monroe Co. I have been trying to trace her roots back in South Carolina and found that all the Feasters there are kin. My problem is none of them have a girl named Mollie. I think now that Mollie is short for Mary Polly but I can't prove it. On the 1880 cencus she is listed as Mollie and her husband was Ward and had four children. I even have a photo of one of the children, John Ward b:1869 in Monroe Co. Ala. If I can find where she died I might be able to get the Death Certificate from Alabama and maybe --just maybe it would list her parents. My wife's Grandfather, Daniel James Melvin married Mollie Feaster's daughter Jimmie Eula Anderson. Thanks, Hugo >>

    3. The committee formation is now complete for the Tallapoosa County Heritage Book. There is a Chair for the committee, one for Family Stories and one for Topical Stories. There is to be P. O. Box obtained for receiving the stories. When I receive that address I will let you know. To those wishing brochures, I am told that it will now be about 3 - 4 weeks and I will mail them as soon as I get them. The deadline for submission of stories is currently set for 31 July 1999. That gives everyone plenty of time to write their story/stories and get them submitted. I have volunteered to keep track of the stories that are submitted. Since I do not live in Tallapoosa County it would not be appropriate for me to chair any part of the committee, but I will help by tracking the stories. Have a GREAT DAY!! Jack F. Shotts, Sr. P. O.
