Hi, am still searching for descendants of Robert F Sessions, known to have migrated to Tallapoosa Co. from Troup Co GA about 1840's. He is known to have bought land there and probably lived in the Dudleyville area. He was reported (Taproots) to have died and was buried in Tallapoosa Co. He could have had two wives, lst Patience Pattillo, md in Morgan Co. GA, 1809 and 2nd Rebecca Whatley, marriage date about 1820's and place unknown. He is believed to have had about nine children. Any connecting info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Jo
Hello, I just joined this list, and I am searching for any Byrd, Paulett, or Caver, in Tallapoosa or Lee County. My great grandfather was John Wesley Byrd who married Rutha Jane Paulett in Lee County in 1872. Her brother, Samuel (Jesse) Paulett married Elizabeth C. Caver in 1868, Lee County. This section was Tallipoosa before 1866. J. W.'S parents may have been Henry or William. These people were Methodists. Thank you, Susan Morris
Does anyone have anything on the above surnames? All clues apreciated. Dennis

Hello I am researching the GRESHAM and WILKINSON families of Tallapoosa County. William and Elizabeth __?__Gresham had a least three sons: John Warren Gresham, born 1827, married Sarah Ann Golden William Henry Gresham, born 1830, married Martha Brewer James M. Gresham, born 1832, married Mary Elizabeth Nutt There most likely were more children and I am hoping to find there was a daughter named Sarah who married Crofferd Wilkinson. If you have any information on my family, I will appreciate your sharing and I will certainly share any data I have. RHODES PERRY CO.---- LEWALLEN CHEROKEE CO. How Green Was My Valley From "How Green Was My Valley" by Richard Llewellyn: "I saw behind me those who had gone, and before me those who are to come, I looked back and saw my father, and his father, and all our fathers, and in front to see my son, and his son, and the sons upon sons beyond. And their eyes were my eyes. As I felt, so they had felt and were to feel, as then, so now, as tomorrow and forever. Then I was not afraid, for I was in a long line that had no beginning and no end, and the hand of his father grasped my father's hand, and his hand was in mine, and my unborn son took my right hand, and all, up and down the line that stretched from Time That Was to Time That Is, and Is Not Yet, raised their hands to show the link, and we found that we were one, born of Woman, Son of Man, made in the Image, fashioned in the Womb by the Will of God, the Eternal Father."
In the early 1900s my Grandmother received a letter from her sister in Dadeville, and in it Aunt Exie mentioned Gresham Davis - that he was in town but she had not seen him. We have a lot of "missing" family members and I have wondered if he could be a descendant of one of my missing great-great-uncles. I am descended from JOHN DAVIS and wife Rachael Greer who married probably in Laurens Co, SC about 1820. Their children were: Martha, Joseph G, William W., John Daniel, Susannah, James A., Margaret Priscilla, Thomas Alexander, Samuel H., and George Washington Davis. We don't know what happened to William W, James A, Margaret P, and Samuel H. Some of these could have moved to Tennessee like Thomas Alex. did.
I just received a listing of SIMMONS buried at the Roxana Methodist Church Cemetery. The church is still active. My SIMMONS ancestors lived and owned land in Tallapoosa County. However, some of them were buried at this cemetery located in LEE County, Alabama. Six and one-half miles southwest of Waverly on County Road 54. NW 1/4 of SE 1/2 Section 29, T 20 N, R 24E. I am so excited receiving this information from one of my cousins. Other people buried there are as follows: (they are not in alphabetical order -- it may be the way the cemetery is laid out. Does anyone have any information on the Joseph Hackney Family that moved to Tallapoosa County, AL in 1830's from Monroe County, TN. It was a large family. Joseph's son, Samuel, died in Tallapoosa County abt. 1841 and was buried there. William Land Hackney, son of Samuel, was born there in 1839. Joseph & Family lived in the vicinity of Hackneyville on a creek where he and his sons built and operated a grist mill. In 1850, Joseph Hackney age 65 and wife, Ellander, still resided in Tallapoosa County. We do not know whether they died there or moved. Joseph was my ggg-grandfather, Samuel my gg-grandfather, William my g-grandfather. If I were to make a trip to Tallapoosa County to search for information and grave sites, where should I start looking for information. Thanks for any help. Ernestine Reeder

Dear Groups: The Alabama Dept. of Archives & History had a training workshop today, Mar. 26, titled: ADAH/GSU LOOSE RECORDS MICROFILMING PROGRAM COUNTY VOLUNTEERS' TRAINING WORKSHOP. I was able to attend and impressed with the program. I asked that they explain the program to all the Alabama e-mail groups and maybe they will, but basically, they are seeking volunteers to go in and get these records together according to their guidelines and then the Genealogical Society of Utah will go in and film them. Now, maybe all our records will be preserved and Salt Lake, Alabama Archives, and our local counties will have copies. Won't that be great! Now is our chance to do something about this as volunteers are needed to help get this in order. Contact person listed was Tom Turley or other staff of the ADAH Government Records Division, 624 Washington Avenue, Montgomery, AL 36130. Telephone (334)242-4452, ext 234: FAX: (334)240-3433; e-mail:tturley@archives,state.al.us. Glenda Lowe
