On the 1855 State Census of Tallapoosa Co., AL there was a Johnson HALL. Does anyone know anything about him? Was he the brother to the Jonathan HALL born ca 1784 who also lived there in 1855 and in 1860. Thanks, Wynell
Researching Franklin T. Kimbrell (Kimbro/Kimbrough) who may have lived in Tallapoosa County in 1840-60. His son, J. Franklin Kimbrough was born 1849 in Alabama--maybe Tallapoosa. J. Franklin's children included Daisy, Maggie, Reginal and Cleveland. Franklin later moved to St. Clair County, AL, Florida, and Wilburton, Oklahoma. Any connections? Mary Shelton
Does anyone know where I can purchase a copy of "Some Early Settlers of Tallapoosa County, Alabama" by Sandra S. Wilson, Copyright 1986, Revised and reprinted December 1986? I had been given sometime in the past year, an address for Sandra in or around Alexander City, but my letter was returned marked "No longer at that address." Thanks for your help. Jeanette
Ray offered to do look-ups in Good Hope Baptist Church (located Elmore County, formerly in Tallapoosa Co.) records 1847 to 1868. Myra Johnson wrote: Ray: Do you have the actual church records? I live in Tallassee near the church and have relatives buried there who were members of the church. I was not aware the church had old records. Snip... Ray answered: Myra, I have copies of part of original church records. About 25 years ago, I visited the church and met the serving church clerk (my great and my great great grandfathers were both church clerks at Good Hope in the mid-1800s). She had the original records in her home which was within sight of the church. They were in several of those old leather ledger books about 8 inches wide and 14 to 16 inches in height. I persuaded her to loan them to the Alabama Department of Archives and History in Montgomery. I paid to have two copies made, one of which I placed in the archives in Montgomery. I have the other copy. I assume (I pray!!) the originals still exist. Snip. Ray

Hello... John S. Gresham married Elizabeth Weldon in Tallapoosa County, AL, in 1872. John was the son of John Warren Gresham and Sarah Ann Golden. Elizabeth was the daughter of Lorenzo Weldon. Does anyone know anything of the Gresham/Weldon connection? John moved on to Arkansas and in 1878, he married Sarah Jones. A family member supposedly did some research on our Hancock line and stated that the following people were born in Tallapoosa Parish, Alabama. John Jackson Hancock on December 15, 1850; Sarah Josaphine Hancock on October 29, 1852; Floyd Wesley Hancock in 1854; and Amanda Martille Hancock on March 25, 1855. Supposedly these births took place in or near an area called Skiletlick. The fathers name would have been Thomas Hancock and the mother Bethany Weldon Hancock. Is there such a place? How were births recorded then in Tallapoosa Parish? Was this family listed in an 1850 census in Tallapoosa Parish? I would appreciate any help I might receive with the gathering of information on this family. Thank you so much. Sharon Dixon
Dickerson D. MEZICK who married Sally BEDSWORTH ca 1816 in Somerset County, MD. Earlier, there was a Sarah "Sally" BROWN who married 1810 to Thomas BEDSWORTH in Somerset County, MD. Could Sally BROWN and Sally BEDSWORTH be the same person? Consider the following.... Dickerson and Sally are believed to have fled MD after Dickerson escaped from jail on a kidnapping charge and by 1830 had settled in Dekalb County, GA (and then in Tallapoosa County, AL by 1840). Their children included: Wyley, Mattie, Jane, James, and Harriett. One or more descendants from these children have recorded Dickerson's wife as Sally BROWN. This is also recorded in records a MEZICK/BROWN researcher submitted to LDS. As a result, if Sally was indeed a BROWN, it would lend credence to the fact that the Sally BEDSWORTH who married Dickerson in 1816 had been already been married prior to her marriage to Dickerson. Can anyone shed any light on this possible connection between Sally BROWN and Sally BEDSWORTH? David

Tallapoosa County Court House, Dadeville, AL 36853, phone # 205-825-4266, this is as of 1997.
I, too, had trouble with the Handy Book listing. Their address for the Tallapoosa Probate Judge's office must be outdated - my letter was returned because the address was incorrect. A few days ago, I sent another letter to the following address, which I found on the AL Gen Web site (I think!): Tallapoosa County Clerk Courthouse Dadeville AL 36583-1395 It hasn't been 'returned to sender' yet; we'll see.
