    3. Many thanks to all who responded to my urgent plea this afternoon! I really appreciate your help and am doubly happy that there will be a veterans section as well. That's four more stories we can add in the next two months! Now everybody get busy and send in a story about your earliest ancestor in Tallapoosa, even if it's a short one. Ya'll are great! 3. Hi Dave I am sure they will be happy to include any lines you wish to send in. I am TRYING to find enough on my Greshams to include. I am assuming, which one should NEVER do, that someone will include my Golden line. 3. Please help! I'm in trouble with the deadline for the Tallapoosa County history book... I've been unsubscribed for awhile and just re-subbed so don't have access to recent messages that might cover this topic... What is the current deadline for articles to go into the Tallapoosa Co. Heritage Book? The latest date I've found online is July 31, which is Saturday. I have materials on a pioneer family ready to submit and was planning to Fed-Ex them at noon today. Unfortunately I now see that they are supposed to be mailed to a P.O. Box which negates using Fed-Ex. Do they need to *have it by Saturday or (hopefully) will a "postmark by Saturday" work as well? Hopefully someone in the know will see this message and respond ASAP, because I must do something quickly. I'm about to leave for work, so please respond to both of the following addresses: kathyhoover@worldnet.att.net kathy.hoover@sematech.org I'll go to the post office as soon as I hear. Many thanks!

    2. Is that located along one of the rivers in North Alabama where the Cherokee and or Creek were held in stockades? I think that would have been in about 1830-1835 before Jackson's soldiers removed the Indians from the East and sent them on the Trail of Tears into AR and OK!! 2. On the 1895 map shown on the below site - Oakfuskee was still listed as a town. My relatives are shown on census for Tallapoosa County in the late 1800s as living in Oakfuskee (spelling??). http://www.livgenmi.com/tallapoosaAL.htm Jeanette

    3. Researching an Andrew Jackson Bowen born March 30, 1819 in Georgia. He was marrried around 1840 to 1845. He had two children by the names of James W. Bowen and Lucinda Bowen. He later married Mary Lee Hayes in Carroll County, Georgia in 1853. Andrew and Mary had thirteen children together. They later moved to Clay County, Alabama. They moved around quite a bit between Georgia and Alabama. It does appear that some of the children were born in Carroll County, Georgia and the rest in Clay County, Alabama near the city of Lineville. He later died on April 10, 1877 right before his move back to Georgia. If anyone is researching this family line please contact me about your research and I will share information with you. Thank you, Cory Bowen.

    3. We discussed extending the deadline at the June meeting, but it was agreed that we would wait until this meeting on Jul 23 to officially do it. I am sure it will be done, but I do want to get in my articles before then. People are really getting excited about the book and glad you are interested. Will try to let this group know for sure after the 23rd. 1. Info on MARTHA TAYLOR YATES, anyone?
    2. Hi All: I am looking for info on a ggggrandmother of mine named MARTHA TAYLOR YATES. She was born about 1847 in Tallapoosa County, Alabama, and died May 12, 1890 in Rusk County Texas. She married JOHN WILSON PEPPER on Oct 31, 1867 in Tallapoosa County. Family lore has it that she was a Native American or part Native American and I would like to know about her family and what tribe she might have been related to. MANY thanks for any help!
