Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state. Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb. As an alternative to RootsWeb Mailing Lists, Ancestry message boards are a great option to network with others in the genealogy community. Message boards are available for free with an Ancestry registered account. Thank you for being part of the RootsWeb family and contributing to this community. Hello, I'm not sure how long ago your post was, but I saw you were looking for information concerning the history of John Jackson Benson & his son, William Benson. As you know, the Bensons were the wealthiest black family in the South. You have an exceptional lineage. A great deal of their history can be found in the works of W.E.B Dubois, Paul Dunbar, and Booker T. Washington. Serena
Alabama counties: Tallapoosa and Washington counties added Tuscaloosa, Wilcox, Walker and Winston counties are not available online (no images, only at Family History Library as it is now.) ???????????????????? https://www.sampubco.com/wills/al/alabama.htm Free Familysearch account to see images. Hi everyone, as most know rootsweb.com have been down for quite a while. The lists are now working and can once again be used for genealogy queries and research for Tallapoosa Co. The message boards are also working, but we do not know if/when they will bring personal web sites back online. Debra Crosby altallap list admin

In 1886, at least 14 graduates of the school were still practicing in Alabama. - I google Grafenberg Medical Institute came across the history of institute. Oct 1, 1908 from Alph P Shehonn (nee Cook) of Decherd TN Subject pension application indicates Isam Shehann served in Co E, 34th AL with three brothers and father. Also that father and one brother died during the war. Muster Roll indicates Pvts (#73-76) of Tallapoosa Co: Thomas Shehorn 45, J N Shehorn 21, Isham Shehorn 23 and W. M. Shehorn 19. Muster Roll also indicates 4th Cpl James Shehane 25 of Macon Co. 1866 census indicates 1 soldier in family killed and 1 soldier died of disease. Thomas (father) is documented as buried in CSA cem Lauderdale Springs MS. Other three Pvts are noted in later census listings so did not die in service; Joshua, Isham and William Shehorn etc. No later mention of James F Shehorn (15 in 1860 census) is found. However, his age does not match 4th Cpl James nor does Macon Co. I am seeking any further information on brother James F Shehorn and Cpl James Shehorn. Brother James could have been a later recruit after the original muster. I would appreciate any further info on the cause of death of Thomas. Mrs Alpha Shehann (nee Cook) also mentions her "only brother" was killed at Shiloh, no regt given. Thanks, R Dailey Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I have not delved too much into the geneaology of the Benson family beyond John J. Benson, his two wives and his children. Most of research has been around William Benson and his activities relating to the Kowaliga Academic and Industrial Institute and The Dixie Industrial Company as we as his relationships with Booker T. Washington and W. E. B. DuBois. I would love to talk and share further. I have been gathering research for a book, but just haven't made the time to write it.
