Here it is, a shiny new year, and I was all revved up for my Cook County online BMD records just the way they promised...but no, not yet, alas. This was announced in September: "Jason Meisner, Tribune Staff Reporter, 09/07/2007 "Professional genealogists and people interested in researching their family tree will soon be able to access key records from home instead of ordering by mail or traipsing down to a musty office in the Loop, Cook County Clerk David Orr said Thursday. "If all goes as planned, newly digitized versions of county records such as birth and death certificates and marriage licenses will be available beginning in January on one searchable Web site that will revolutionized how such research is done, Orr said". My recent check with David Orr's office resulted in an email about a few unspecified glitches in the system. As a result, they say, "Our new go- live date is (hopefully) June/July of 2008". Patience is a virtue, so it is said. ---- saki@ucla.edu
