Each obituary or death notice is indexed by the name of the deceased person to make searching easier and more precise. In addition, the text of each obituary or death notice is searchable, making it easy to find just what you're looking for, using a place of residence, occupation, names of family members, or other personal information. Appreciate the complement re my skills but in this case it was just using the right resource. Mike

Also, although you can narrow the search by state, don't be hesitant to just use the broadest search possible. Sometimes they index it kinda oddly but don't provide a soundex. Secondly, the obiturary may be in their state of origin or where their children reside. Mike.

Mike, How far back in years does the articles in this database go? Can you access this database from home or at your library? So far the only one I did find that carried dates prior to was the New York Times & that did not help me. I was being hopeful this database, the one you had mention, would also carry dates prior to 1985. A library in my area has this database but you can only access it from their library. That is the reason I ask you what years this had before I made the trip there, only to learn it doesn't go prior to 1985, in any state. Other states of interest are NY & Mass. Thanks for responding back. Diane
