Gather ye rosebuds while ye may - one of the sites that will probably disappear when Geocities closes is: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Meadows/7589/index.html German South African Resource Page This page is dedicated to various issues relating to German South Africans, including genealogy, local history and church matters. Where ever possible, identical pages have been made available in English and German. I suggest that if others know of any useful sites that will be similarly affected by Yahoo!'s decision to close Geocities, they post the URL with a brief description in the relevant newsgroups, with "Geocities closing:" at the beginning of the subject line. -- Steve Hayes Web: http://hayesgreene.wordpress.com/ http://hayesfam.bravehost.com/famhist1.htm http://www.geocities.com/Athens/7783/

As I mentioned, Henning Boettcher lost his original web-site due to a disagreement with his ISP in Switzerland. However, Wolf Zscheile ([email protected]) generously made room for Henning's data on _his_ site, www.saxonyroots.com. I don't know that Wolf would be interested/inclined to support yet another orphan, but it seems to me that materials relating to German SW Africa would be of interest to the same folks that find Henning's information useful. You might want to "ping" Wolf and ask the question. Regards, Sleepy Ol' Bob -- Robert G. You >might want to "ping" Wolf and ask the question. I'm not looking for a home for any one particular site (I've copied the site in question to my computer). I'm asking if we can make a LIST of sites on Geocities with useful genealogical information that might be lost when Geocities closes, so that people who might be interersted in that information can look before it closes. I suggest that the subject lines in such messages begin "Geocities closing:" followed by the subject of the website, to facilitate collection.
