    3. Ray, I knew different states have different privacy laws and that you could run into this problem, but also knew that marriage licenses are public records in some states. Good luck. He says they are NOT public records and I can not inspect them. I pointed out that marriages are publicized in newspapers, which sort of makes them public. Didn't matter to him. (Actually, he claimed that marriages are no longer publicized.) He also said that if a relative of a deceased wanted a copy of a death record, he couldn't provide it because it contains the cause of death, and that is private. Bureaucrats: humbug. I asked about commercial sites that provide this information (marriage certificates). All he could say is that they don't get it from his offices (or those of his counterparts). I just spoke with USA People Finders. Even they can't provide marriage names for marriages taking place in New Jersey, for the same privacy reason. So the only benefit I could get from them is locating some of the hard-to-find guys. ************************** So, Ralph, while the idea is logical, in N.J. it doesn't work.
