They were Sigloh's and had a farm in the flatlands of Brooklyn and when I started looking at neighbors I found about 25 of them. In fact I was able to track down a great grand daughter today and gave her a call. I think she was very surprised. She let me know that after the holiday she was going to dig through some boxes and find some pictures of the farm. If my memory serves me correctly the farm was started about 1850. 1. Christmas and the Three Wise Men
    2. Christmas and the Three Wise Men The Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams, has given his view that the story of the three wise men, coming from the east, who followed the star to Bethlehem is nothing more than a legend. Theophrastus [372-288/7 B.C.], the disciple of Aristotle, mentions that: "Among the plants that grow in Arabia, Syria and India the aromatic plants are somewhat exceptional and distinct from the plants of other lands; for instance, frankincense, myrrh, cassia, opobalsam, cinnamon and all other such plants," as noted in Greek and Latin Authors on Jews and Judaism, Vol. I, page 15, # 7. . . . The wise men from the east who came into the house where Jesus the Christ lived as a young child (St. Matthew, 2:1-11), saw Him with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped Him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto Him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh. Jesus was approximately, a child aged 1-2 years old, at the time of the visit of the wise men. Gold was sent annually to the Temple at Jerusalem, from communal contributions, suggesting the wise men from the east came as legal and lawful representatives from Syria, Arabia, India or beyond. http://www.academic-genealogy.com/tingeo1.htm Merry Christmas & A Happy New Year Tom Tinney, Sr. and Family Family Genealogy & History Internet Education Directory http://www.academic-genealogy.com/ Regional Genealogy and Local History Research: Local History and Genealogy Portals to the World. http://www.academic-genealogy.com/regionalgenealogy.htm

    1. Re: Michael C. Fox & Cecilia Fox, nee Moran
    2. Looked them up in the 1901 census which says Michael emigrated in 1849 (so, when he was 14 or 15) and wife Cecilia emigrated in 1837 (so, as a toddler). This means they each came with their parents and married in Ontario. Both described as Roman Catholics. Incidentally, in 1901, they were living with a daughter Loretta C. born 1 Nov 1879 and son Edward M., born 10 November 1881. Michael is a farmer, Edward is a miller. In the birth listings, there is also a son Charles James born 14 April 1880. Found some more of their children in the listings for marriages - Elizabeth, born about 1858, married a Thomas Cunningham born about 1850, on 10 October 1883 in Cobourg. He is son of Thomas and Margaret. Emma Fox, born about 1874, married Miles McCauley born about 1866 from Lindsay. They married July 21 1896 in Cobourg. He is son of John McCauley and Margaret Kehoe. Evaline Fox, born about 1875, married Joseph Grosjean born about 1875 in Hamilton. He is son of John Grosjean and Mary Noland. Evaline married 13 July 1897 in Cobourg. Then we have the Margaret born about 1868 who married James Fox son of Michael Fox and Ellen Roach. They married 19 June 1894 in Cobourg. There is a son Joseph, born about 1866, married Mary Nolan who was born about 1870 and was daughter of Hgh Nolan and Hanora Fitzgerald. Married 21 July 1896 (same day as sister Emma) in Cobourg. Daughter Loretta married Robert Struthers born about 1878, son of James Struthers and Jane Webster. Married in Cobourg 5 November 1902. Son William Fox (born about 1861) married Emilie Holmes, daughter of William and Mary. Marriage was in Cobourg 5 May 1886. So....we have at least 10 kids we know of who were children to the couple.....John, William, Edward, Loretta, Evaline, Margaret, Joseph, Emma, Elizabeth and Charles. First born looks like Elizabeth (born 1858), so the couple Michael and Cecilia were probably married 1857 or so, prior to civil marriage registrations. Mary

    3. I'm having a very busy morning all of a sudden. I started out opening the database to look up a few unusual first names for the Licenda thread, and I happened across Boliver Sharp. Opened the record and looked at a census form or two, and somehow decided to start tracking his neighbors, figuring people didn't move too often in country where the census listed everyone as living on farms. Lo and behold! Suddenly I'm able to identify Sim King, Franswaw Jenkins (try looking at THAT one for a while in cursive handwriting, trying to figure out what the heck the writer was trying to say, before actually typing it and sounding it out, and you'll know why it didn't hit home), and a host of others; they're mostly people I already had in my database, but hadn't identified as being, for example, in the 1910 Census and of course hadn't documented their status then. Found at least one new child in a family, and I've been at this less than an hour. I'm going to have to work out some way of plotting neighborhoods, or of somehow keeping track of the relative locations of people and families. This could have interesting repercussions. -- Dec. 6 (Bloomberg) -- Government officials and activists flying to Bali, Indonesia, for the United Nations meeting on climate change will cause as much pollution as 20,000 cars in a year.
