The Pony has the best spring/clamp mechanism of most of the clamps in it's category. I bought a set of the cheaper clamps and the springs weren't strong enough to keep them from sliding around. When you have glue drying on a large project, that can be a real pain. Pay a few extra bucks and get these. Clamps can make or ruin a long prepared piece of work. Buying a suitable clamp can be like entering a minefield of potential disaster, but with the prospect of a passage towards a successful conclusion. Clamps can become a joiner's passion! I have used many varying kinds of clamp, paid ridiculous prices in those warehouse store of orange and blue, and have amassed a collection of clamps that adorn my workshop. My most expensive clamp is ironically my least used. I can wholeheartedly recommend the Pony clamp. It offers excellent compression, virtually no lateral movement and is a real bargain at the price. How I would have loved a couple of these worthy claps when I struggled with the headboard of my bed! If you need to join boards, frames, doors etc you need at least four sets of these clamps. You'll need some varying length of iron pipe to match. For the price it would be hard to do better! Update Actually, you can do better, Big Lots have a similar clamp for half t! he price. Good quality constuction, durable, easy to operate, sturdy and stable in high pressure applications. For maximum clamping power, the ¾" pipe clamp is the way to go. If your needs are not as demanding, then then this is the clamp for you. The crank style handle worked very smooth and has adequate travel. The adjustment with the handle was such that either light or heavy pressure could be applied with ease. The clamps can also be set horizontally on a flat surface allowing you to edge glue pieces for tabletops very easily. The beauty of this style clamp is the ability to change clamping length needs quickly. One clamp with multiple lengths of threaded steel1 ½" pipe gives you endless capabilities. While the steel bar type clamps does have their niche for lighter task (drawer construction, carcasses assembly, etc) and the ¾" pipe clamps handle you most demanding jobs, these clamps could be considered a hybrid (in capacity rating) of the two. For my money though, its worth a little extra in investing in the ¾" model as oppose to this one. But then again, why not have bot! h? You can never have enough clamps!!! These clamps are the little cousin of Pony's great 3/4" pipe clamps. While the 1/2" clamps work fine within their limits, they do have limits. Applying a lot of pressure will flex a 1/2" pipe, possibly leading to an out of square joint. I also do not think that the clamp tightening mechanism is as well made as on the 3/4" clamps, but it is still pretty good. I have had this watch for only two weeks, but I feel as if I have worn it for ages. It looks good, and feels good. The instructions in the accompanying miniature booklet are somewhat awkward but once you have read them several times through, you can figure out what to do. Lavishly packed - great as a present - even to yourself! I like my watch a lot... the fact that it does not have backlight and hard to read at night and the sync thing (dials vs. digital) I can live with. The fact that it was broken twice already (same exact thing - stuck on stopwatch and not allow returning back to showing the time) is very frustrating, especially since I have it for less then a year. FYI - Tissot will not talk to you if you have an issue. You will have to use the warranty given by Amazon and it is not good, sorry to say. Not only that they are not responsive and it took 3 calls and screamin on a supervisor to get a status of the repair but 2 months later the same thing happened again and you have no one to talk to, just the warranty company. Remember - Tissot will not talk to you and after 30 days Amazon will not talk to you as well. Solid build and construction. The pressure-sensitive glass surface is scratch resistant. The compass uses the hour and minute hand and is easy to read. The altimeter and barometer stays accurate if calibrated. The thermometer uses the bottom plate as sensor, thus is only accurate when the watch is not worn. After wearing this watch for 1-2 years, I found the digital clock out of sync with the analog clock. For example, the digital clock shows 9:00, but the analog hands show 9:02. A short call to the Tissot Customer Support fixed the problem. They showed me how to re-sync the two. They said it is caused by de-magnetization. Not sure if that is true, but at least I can fix it. It is a men's watch, but is still wearable on a slender woman's wrist. The strap is adjusted by cutting off the extra rubber with scissors. Despite several shortcomings, I still find this watch stylish and uilitarian. Many people comment on the watch. It is definitely an attention-catcher. I wanted this watch for a while and my wife got it for me for Christmas. I absolutely love it! Alt.* newsgoups are typically unmoderated. The only moderated genealogy newsgroup that I read is soc.genealogy.methods. I seldom see spam here thanks to an extensive set of filters.
