    1. [ALSUMTER] Surnames MCELROY and WILSON
    2. SHARON MCELROY
    3. I am researching/searching for MCELROY and WILSON family members. My G-great grandfather "Bird" or Byrd MCELROY (it is not know if Bird was a nickname or given name) was known to have been in Sumter County ca 1870. I did not find him on the Colored Population Census for 1866. Bird married Emma Wilson 6 December 1881 in Lauderdale County, MS. According to the 1900 census information Bird was born Aug 1835 in Al. His parents were born in NC. Emma was born 1862 in AL. Her parents were also born in AL. Their children were Maude, Mary, Will (my grandfather)James, Laura, Ilma (?) I think this one should have been Irma, Thomas and Leo. Emma was said to have been of Native American, African/African American mixture. I have a Death Certificate for a Burral McElroy which I thought might have been Bird, however, the only information that might tie it to my Bird is the informants name and location. Identifying information such as parents names, birthplaces etc is all unknown. This person died in 1915 which ties the timeframe of my grandfather leaving the south for Ohio and PA. I have not been able to find anything else on Emma nor her family group. I would really like to find their burial places etc.
