    1. [ALSUMTER] Re: CUBLEY Grave
    2. A comprehensive survey of all known cemeteries in Sumter County was accomplished in the 1960s and 1970s, and a book of the recorded tombstone inscriptions was published in 1997. No Cubleys are listed. My records show that a John K. Cubley died in Sumter County and that he left a will (Will Book 1, page 121) and some settlement of his estate is recorded in Orphans Court Record Book 3, page 91. You should keep in mind that relatively few early immigrants to Sumter County were buried with permanent grave markers. It seems that most, even those who could have well afforded inscribed tombstones, were placed in graves without them. Also, the ravages of man (e.g., land-clearing bulldozers, loggers) and of nature have destroyed many of the family cemeteries and, overgrowth is now consuming some of the early community and church cemeteries where there is no one left to care for them. Hope that this helps. Joe
