[this is not my family, hope it may help someone] In Gainesville, Ala., on May 21 occurred the death of EDWARD N. KRING, who went from the State of New York to Sumter Co., Ala., in 1860 as a young mechanic. When the war came on, he volunteered in Co. A, 5th Alabama Battalion, one of the first companies to leave the State and he served faithfully throughout the war in the Virginia Army. After the surrender at Appomattox, he returned to Sumter Co. married MISS BETTIE GRAY LITTLE, and made his home in the town of Gainesville, where he was known as an upright citizen and loyal church member, a zealous Mason, and faithful to the memory of the cause for which he had fought.
