    3. I am looking for information about my family. We are of African American descent. It is my understanding that all of them were born and/or lived and died in Sumter County, AL near either Gainesville, Panola or Warsaw. My 2nd great grandfather was Melvin NEWTON(b. unk d. approx 1892-5). It has been told to us that he was either full or 1/2 Indian. It has also been told to us that the men of the town poisoned him to death because he was sleeping with their wives. He married Mary Elizabeth BOSTON(b. unk d. unk). They had at least one child that I know of..my great grandmother Laura NEWTON(b. 2/26/1890 d. 7/31/1983). Her father died when she was very young. She didn't remember him. Laura NEWTON married Jim TURNER(b. unk d. approx 1957). They had several children Clara TURNER Conway, George TURNER, Laura Mae TURNER Stanton, Leotis TURNER Washington, Mary TURNER, Mattie Lee TURNER and my grandfather, Jimmie Lee TURNER. I believe that they all attended Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Warsaw, AL. They are buried there at the church cemetery. I haven't been able to get out there see the gravesites yet. If you have any information that can help me get pass the brick wall, it would be appreciated. Thanks.
