Tom Gregory, I was born and reared in Sumter County, along with your first cousins, Alice and Mary Louise Simms. Your best source of information on your Gregory, Amason, etc. relatives there, except for courthouse records, would probably be Mrs. Nelle Jenkins' book, Pioneer Families of Sumter County.
