    3. I am looking for help with information on my 2nd great grandfather. I'm not sure if he was born in Sumter County, AL but he died there near Panola. It is believed that he was either full or 1/2 Indian. He married a freed slave named Mary Elizabeth ?. Not sure when that occurred. They had at least one daughter named Laura b. 2/26/1890 in Sumter County, AL. Melvin was known for being a womanizer. We've been told the story that the men of the town poisoned him to death around 1893-4. Grandma Laura never knew her father. If you have any information about this, please reply. Thanks for your help. Also, does anyone know which church in Panola and/or Warsaw is the oldest African American church? It is believed that Melvin is buried there. Thea
