I believe that the York Library and the Coleman Center are open until noon on Saturday and closed on Sunday. Perhaps someone else has more precise information for you. Mine is several years old.
Can anyone tell me the weekend hours of the York Library and the Coleman Center? Thanks, Al Willard
>From a weekly emailed newsletter I receive, I learned today of the website for Heritage Publishing Company, the company that is publishing the Sumter Heritage Book. The company is located in Clanton, Alabama, by the way. The website gives the status of their books on all the Alabama counties. More than 30 of those books are completed & are available for purchase; a listing shows their prices & address for ordering. The site also gives the deadline dates & the local contact-person for the other counties, whose books are not yet completed, including Sumter. For anyone interested in learning more, the website is: www.heritagepublishing.net There is also a link to Counties Heritage Books, which is working on publishing similar books in the other states of the Southeast. At that link, is a photo that shows what the books look like, for those who are curious. The photo looks like the one in the Sumter County Heritage Book brochure.
Morning....I just printed this IGI Record Index off the Familysearch site. Could someone tell me how I follow up on it now? Benjamin is the one I'm tracking now:) Augustus P. SIMMS sex: M Event(s) Census 1835 Sumter, AL Parents: Father: Benjamin SIMMS Mother: Does this mean 1835 census or born in 1835? MY thanks......jenniferSIMS http://home.talkcity.com/MigrationPath/jjsjjs/CABIN.jpg
Thanks so much Karen Mulder, for the update on the extended deadline. I hope lots of folks will indeed call Mr. Walker for a copy of the brochure & then submit their own families' articles USING the specific guidelines in the brochure, so that when the book is published, we'll get lots more info on our ancestors' area's history. It would be a help to many of us in our research. Barbara
I, too, thank you. I called and the brochure is on its way to me. I hope to add some of my family to the Sumter County Book. Barbara Law Barbara@aol.com
Sorry ... I did not notice Mr. Walker's phone number on the brochure ... 205-392-5118 Karen M.
Dear "Listers", The contact person for the Heritage book is Charles Walker, 995 Walker Rd, York, AL 36925. I found the info in the Odum Genealogical publication out of Moultrie, GA. I no longer have it, but most libraries do. His phone # was in there (though I am sure it would be easy to get from Information); I called him; and he send me the brochure. The original cutoff was Jan 31, 2000, but it has apparently changed. The Odum magazine showed Aug 31 and Mr. Walker confirmed. >From the brochure: "We invite all residents, former residents, and those with roots in Sumter County to submit a family household history of 500 words and one photograph to be printed free!" You need to call or write Mr. Walker for the brochure which has the FULL details, i.e., if your ancestors were there before 1890 you are allowed another 500 words of pioneer history and another photograph. Hope that helps. Karen Mulder
The brochure from 1999 which I mentioned in my earlier post, about "The Heritage of Sumter County, Alabama" book "to be published in Fall 2000" bears the address of: Sumter County Heritage Book Committee P.O. Box 193 Ward, AL 36922 and lists the following (apparently members of that committee), with only telephone numbers for them, no addresses: Chair - Charles Walker 205-392-5118 Family Coordinator - Jimmie Rew 205-392-5728 Topical Coordinator - Julia Rew (same #) Treasurer - Kaye Kiker 205-392-2005 Hopefully through one of the above phone numbers or the above address, you can learn more. Hopefully work on the book is proceeding on schedule and it is not too late for you to order a copy. I would welcome hearing whatever you learn. Barbara Neal = = = = >I did not know about the book. I know it is too late to submit according to the previous post, but I would like a chance to purchase the book. Could someone send me some information? Thanks Barbara LawBarbara@aol.com<
Please forward the information to me. What do you need from me? Barbara LawBarbara@aol.com
The latest deadline for submitting articles for the Sumter Co. book is Aug. 31, 2000. I have an address and details if anyone wants them. Karen
I did not know about the book. I know it is too late to submit according to the previous post, but I would like a chance to purchase the book. Could someone send me some information? Thanks Barbara LawBarbara@aol.com
I know that the deadline for submitting articles for __The Heritage of Sumter County, Alabama__ book was January 31, 2000. The Sumter Co Heritage Book committee's brochure last year had shown that the book was "Currently scheduled to be published in Fall 2000." Can anyone on our Sumter Co List give any update or status report on the committee's work, or the book? Some of us mailed in not only articles on our families, but also sent checks to order copies of the book. It is disconcerting that checks (mine & others I'm aware of) have not yet been deposited.... Thanks for any update available, Barbara
